BASE jumping (American style)

Recommended Posts

I'm sure I saw a video of this happening last year. The article says that ducks have nested there for 3 years so it could be possible. Thank goodness he was there to catch the ducklings, it doesn't bear thinking about otherwise.

I'm not sure mother ducks (mallards at least) are always terribly smart. I certainly don't think a high ledge is a very good nesting place for baby ducks! I remember a few years ago driving along the A1 dual carriageway close to where I live and there was a mother with ducklings trying to cross the road

My first thought was to stop the car, scoop up all the ducks and drive them to the other side (it was by a roundabout) but there was no where to pull over safely, so I had to leave the poor ducks to take their chance. I didn't dare drive along there for a couple of weeks as I couldn't bear the thought of finding squashed ducks on the road (and I do suspect this may have been the outcome) :(

So glad these lucky duckies made it to safety though :D

Ducks are irresponsible mothers - they often abandon their babies if they can't keep up.

I used to work in central Oxford, not far from the river; every year, a duck would nest in a quad and when the babies were ready to take to the water, she'd walk them across roads to get there - we used to down-tools and escort them all the way.... she never said thank you
