jennydavies
Our top hen, Bluebelle, is an excellent matriarch. She is definately in charge, getting first look-in when there are treats about, but she doesn't rule with an iron fist. She just gives a little threatening look and a bok at the other two and they know their place. She is a little sweetie, very friendly - is my favourite "cuddle chicken" and a little angel. Chucky Mama
We have a top hen but only by the narrowest of margins. When it comes to food she is flattened by our piggy hen During frog rugby it is our smallest hen. When it is guard duty during sleep time it is our shy girl that sorts out the rota
meezers
Same as above. I seem to have 2 top chooks as I had 2 groups that I merged. The top chooks seem to be evenly matched and seem to share their position. Ozzy rarely pecks anyone, just gives them a look. Lottie will do the staring thing, but if that doesn't work immediately , she's in there with the beak If you watch your chooks you will see there is one who never gets pecked, and the others will give way to it when treats are around. It might peck the others or it might just pause and stare or even 'front up' to them and stare them down, but the top chook won't get pecked unless another is making a play for top position, sometimes happens if top chook is moulting, or broody or ill, or maybe if new chooks have been introduced. pipistrelle
I'd say Tikka was top hen but very gentle, however Biryani who seems to be bottom hen in the run seems to challenge top place when free ranging. Tikka and her have had feathers fly over a nice worm or two
coco
Lola is my top hen very closely followed by Lily. Lola rules with an iron beak and is very quick to have a go, my smallest girl Pipa runs rings round both of them though she is so quick. winterwren
Oooh there is no question Beryl is our top hen! She is first out in the morning, first to the food and monitors where the other hens are. She eats first and if she hasnt had her fill before the others she will give them the look of death and if they miss that they get a quick peck she is a wonderfully adventurous girlie although I have to watch her bullying as she often will stop Amy and Maggs going to bed by blocking the ladder.
