chickencam
3 out of 3 ok I saw something on TV about this last night, the numbers were staggering. Edited to say, I can see why they made the coins rather than notes because the coins that I have now 4 are dated 1983, 1987, 1991, and 1992, so they obviously last much better. I only looked because when I fished a 4th coin out of my pocket the lettering on the edge was a bit worn. I thought that it might be dodgy but the pictures on front and rear were aligned correctly, it has just been around for 27 years.
Redwing
I read this, got a £1 out of my purse, scrutinised it for a full 30 seconds then realised that it was a 50c coin
cordelia
I had a fake 50p yesterday..and wasnt very pleased. At work we have a lot of europeans working on different accounts (French, Swiss, Germans etc) and I'm always getting euros in change, and coins from all over the world..v annoying...My most annoying was a 2 euro coin instead of a £2 coin, which I'm yet again stuck with.... Kirstine
As it is illegal to knowingly pass fakes on, perhaps we would be better off not checking? I had a dodgy-looking £2 coin not long ago which admittedly I did try to spend, but got it handed back so I ended up chucking it in the bin. Apparently you are supposed to hand them in so they can be melted down and put 'beyond use'.
