Ok, what next?????

Recommended Posts

No real diagnosis, we could test for coccyx but I dont think she has the right symptoms....

I have a build up stuff for her from the vets, 15mls twice a day, but not easy to get it in, she is very resistant!!!

tried mixing it in with some fish yesterday, but still no go :(:( she is pecking about on the floor, just not eating pellets.

Can I syringe stuff in of a night when she is more docile?

when i get home i'll look at the bottle and let you know what it is.

The vet did seem ok, the main poultry man was away. But chatting to the vet nurse 6 of the vet and some nurses had just been sent on a poultry course as it's become so popular.

Her watery stools have stopped now, they were clear/white. No respiratory symptoms. Not hunched. Just away from the rest of the flock and not eating. Poor little love.

I'm giving her the baytril first as I can be sure to get that in, but it's really hard to get the other stuff in as she struggles so much, which is why I thought about trying to get it into her of a night.

If you wrap her in a soft towel and pop her under your arm facing forward you'll have one hand to hold her head and one to use the syringe. Be gentle and firm, they do wriggle a lot but calm down when they know you mean business. Good luck. :D

It's actually a good sign that she has the strength to struggle! Is she being treated for sour crop or just general "illness"? If sour crop, you have to tread carefully with food. Otherwise, seeing as she's off her food, I'd say getting her to eat and drink SOMETHING is vital - so try her with anything she's fancied in the past - mealworms (dried or alive!), corn (mixed or cut off the cob or tinned, rinsed) fishy-cat food, tinned tuna (in mineral water or well-rinsed if in brine), tomatoes (good for rehydration too). Cut it all up small so it's easily digestible.

Or it might be best to try her on a plain diet first - crush up pellets (or use crumb), add warm water and mix into a sloppy porridge. For some reason, my girls can't resist it! :wall::wall::wall:

Hope she gets better soon, I know what a worry a poorly chook is :(

The vet has given us MAXIMOL to give her. I mixed her baytril with some today, and managed to get 10mls down her :?

She appears to be much stronger today, so I am taking that as a good sign. Also I sprinkled some rice down earlier and I did catch her having a peck about at that!

tomorrow is day 4 of baytril, so fingers crossed, I will try her on some fish again tomorrow as that is usually her fave......
