The wonder of technology

Recommended Posts

DD (just turned 18 2 weeks ago) travelled to Japan for a 2 week holiday last Sunday with 3 friends. They are travelling alone but have a very comprehensive itinerary tailor made by their tour operator. I was feeling quite anxious about the whole trip, the usual mummy things, 'would they be safe, would they find their way around to catch all the correct trains and buses etc etc ' :anxious:

Luckily, most of the hotels have free wireless internet access and DD has been able to send me several e-mails from her i pod and even a couple of photos. What on earth did we do before e-mail?!

The girls are having an amazing time and really experiencing the Japanese culture.

What an experience!I am quite jealous

Live! Seriously, before the days of e-mail and mobile phones people were happy without being in touch 24/7. Now is like an addiction for most people and they need their technology fix, whereas back in the good old days people had real friends instead of virtual friends.

Can you tell I've been dragged kicking and screaming into this new way of life? Have you ever heard of a technophobic IT manager?:lol:

That sounds amazing! Which part of Japan is she in? I have to say I'm well travelled but Japan is somewhere I've never been, but I've always wanted to visit. Glad she's having a lovely time, does she speak any of the local lingo? Because that can give you so much more confidence when you are somewhere unknown. Has she sent you any pics of where she's staying yet? Some areas look amazing at night:

They started off in Tokyo, travelled to Hakone, through Osaka then on to Miyajima. Tomorrow they travel to Kyoto, finally making their way back to Tokyo next Sunday via Kanazawa and Takama.

The girls all speak and read a tiny bit of Japanese so hopefully that will get them by.

Wen I used to visit Tokyo for work I used to work in the odd shaped building towards the front of this picture http://www3.hku.hk/mech/sbe/case_study/case/jap/NEC_Supertower/nec-ex3.jpg It is massive , the gap about a thrid of the way up is for the wind to go through, it has an underground station in the basement for just that tower. The view from the exec viewing room towards the top was so 8)

I love Tokyo, would love to go back.
