advice/reassurance wanted please - * sad update

Recommended Posts

Our RIR has has shown signs of a respiratory infection for nearly 3 weeks. During that time she's had two full courses of Baytril (at max. strength for her weight according to the vet). By the end of the second course she was looking perkier, had started laying again (we weren't using the eggs) but still sounded like she had a head cold - sneezing and what the vet thought was mucous at the back of her throat. All the other birds had brief periods of sneezing but none looked unwell - Maisie is the only one who was treated with antibiotics.

She's managed to keep her position as no. 3 of 5 birds (even though she & her friend were new to the group in June). However, the last couple of days the sneezing seems more frequent, she doesn't seem to be eating very much, there have been no eggs for a week, and she's sleeping a lot during the day, with her head tucked in under her wing. She's feeling a bit light as well. She's not a bird that is willing to try treats other than corn so it's hard to give her anything tempting - she turns up her beak at mealworms, pellet porridge, fruit, tuna and egg, but will eat lettuce, spinach and courgettes (pellets, grass, cabbage, cougette, flies, worms and corn).

If she's still not right tomorrow I will definitely take her back to the vet (he didn't want me to worm her until she was recovered so I haven't done that but I did worm her when she first arrived in late May). In the meantime, any suggestions please?
