patsylabrador
I'm sad to see another UK soldier has died and I wonder every time how many were injured in the gunfight or bomb blast. I'm sure we don't get told and yet I see more and more young men on crutches or in wheelchairs. Television documentaries about rehabilitation sites have shockingly large numbers of soldiers with limbs missing and we have no military hospitals. I always feel that we should be told some figures, including those of coalition troops. I'm shocked at the number of troops killed that we never hear about. As we are in a war I feel newspapers should devote some of their front page to plain facts about it, nothing sensitive that would endanger soldiers but information for us. I regularly look at the MOD site for information and I'd rather see that on the front page than a vacuous article about a celebrity. Thank you for giving me the space to rant. Valkyrie
You rant away. They don't give stats on injuries because I think that would be too alarming (we should be informed and alarmed)! I think its more like - articles on vacuous celebrities.
BeckyBoo
I agree. What the people of Wooton Basset do for the returning dead is just amazing, goosepimple stuff, but there's no welcome back for the injured, most of whom will have life changing injruies they and their loved ones will have to live with for the rest of their lives. Which can be even harder for them to bear as they were all at the peak of fitness and physical strength before they sustained them. I dont' know if there are any military hospitals or not but our local general is partly military. I've been up there with the kids and they've been seen by captain So and so, or Colonel someone and I did think there was a hospital in Birmingham or somewhere that specialised in military and combat injuries I know the rehab place at Headley Court is mindblowingly amazing, the staff there are incredible, I go there most Christmases with Dad. Someone told me once (don't know if it's true) that the dead are brought back in the daytime which is how we see those dreadful moving images from Wooton Basset, but that the injured arrive in the early hours when there's no one to see them as it's too shocking and would really impact on the publics perception of our part in this war. It would also make the politicians look bad (who should have a bloomin rep at Wooton Basset every time as far as I'm concerned anyway! ) I may be cynical, but I can well believe that. Rant away, I'll join you on your soapbox if you don't mind! BeckyBoo
