Eggs Soon????

Recommended Posts

So, we've had the 2 girls for just over 2 weeks now, they were roughly 15 weeks old when we got them and was told would probably be a couple of weeks before we see an egg (not seen one yet), the girls are getting more friendly every day and are now feeding out of our hand and letting us stroke them. Now i've read on here about them crouching when you try to stroke them and that means they are nearing the point of laying the first egg, we have one today who is doing exactly that, when you reach out she sort of squats down and doesnt run off, just lets you stroke her or pick her up (extremely amusing  ). So if she is nearly ready how long do you think before we see the first and most important egg??

P.S. this chicken keeping lark is highly amusing and seriously addictive, i'm pretty sure we was warned but didnt believe it :D

Thanks people.

We've had our two black rocks since they were 11weeks....they have always been quite flighty and eager to run away...until last week, within a few days of each other and just before 18weeks their 'personalities' seemed to change, they no longer run away and even come up to you to see what you've got that might be of interest to them. They have started doing the crouching thing too, and her comb and wattles went very red. Within about 10days of 'hot rod' starting to crouch I am convinced she has laid her first egg today! ...a proper lady now!!

Hi Rachael,

You have more or less described the our 2 girls down to a t. They too were flighty but last couple of days will come up to you, let you stroke them while they are having a treat and Daisy has started with the crouching. Hopefully a good sign of things (eggs) to come lol

Mark.
