LuckyChickenLover-
Hiya Good to hear that you've decided to keep a hamster, They're lovely little creatures . What type of hamster do you intend to get? If you are getting a Syrian hamster, which I assume you are, then you are right in thinking that you should only get one as they do not get on well in pairs. If however, you were thinking of getting Dwarf hamsters, you'd be better off getting two as they get lonely. I have a Ferplast cage. This one is one of the ones that I have had. It looks really small there! But to be honest our hamsters spend a lot of time in their balls so they're fine. There's easily enough room in there for what you need; a bed, a wheel, a food bowl, a drink bottle, a corner for the toilet, and a toy, if you want one. Here is another one that I have used. It's a lot bigger and there's room for much more TBH I wouldn't recomend getting one of those Rotastack cages with all the different sections. They're fiddly and difficult to clean. I hope that helped LCL
Ain't Nobody Here
I bought a Habitrail hamster cage like this for little Oscar (sadly no longer with us ). I really liked it and he seemed to as well . I bought extra tubes and things to make it more exciting for him. They don't seem to stock it any more but you might get one on Ebay. LuckyChickenLover-
Can you tell what those cages are called? Sorry!! Thanks Sorry, I couldn't find out the name of the top one, I bought mine years ago so I think they must of stopped making it. I found a very similar one though called called 'Ferplast Paula Hamster Cage' it costs up to £45 I think but I guess it depends on where you buy it. I found one for £35. http://www.feedem.co.uk/small-animals-40/small-animal-cages-134/ferplast-cages-605/ferplast-tube-line-paula-473.htm The second one is called 'Ferplast Mini Duna Hamsper Cage' and is around £30 http://www.petsathome.com/shop/mini-duna-hamster-cage-by-ferplast-15984 If I were you I would go for the Mini Duna one
pagesguineas
Hi After keeping many hamsters in my childhood, I can safely say that a bog standard square cage is the best (obviously with lots of fun toys and activities inside it!! For my first hamster we bought a really fancy rotastak cage called the "Sahara" (cant find any pictures online - must have been a special edition?) which looked amazing, but was the most fiddly thing ever to clean out, took the best part of an hour! For my second hamster we had the rotastak circular cages stacked on each other with loads of tubes going everywhere! That was easier to clean out but we did have a few dodgy tube connections and a lost hamster a few times! Little Pepper loved all those tubes though Third hamster we got it spot on! We bought a standard large cage with 2 levels which gave Tizer plenty of room and took about 5 minutes to clean. It had a tube going in and out of the top so if we wanted to we could connect it to the rotastak products. What I would say though, is all of our hamsters loved playing monkey bars (they would literally climb up the side and all across the top hanging on ) so I'd refrain from getting the one mentioned in the above post which is mainly plastic as they wouldn't be able to do that Hope this helps Catherine

It's quite big so you can fit loads of toys in (Midge loved to play with egg boxes ). We also put him in his ball every so often so he was never bored
