Omletina Kyckling
I didn't post on here, but I had a visitation from the fox a few weeks ago, about 6am, heard lots of commotion, shooed it off, but the girlies were very stressed, but safe as they were in the Cube run. Up until now, they have always free ranged all day, every day, but I've decided it's no longer worth the risk, so I ordered a WIR. My friend has been preparing the site for me. My garden is very steep but at the bottom is quite flat as there was a shed there on slabs. The shed was sold on Ebay at the weekend, and my friend is here today extending the slabbed area so that my 9x6x6 run can go on it. The Cube will sit on the outside of the run. I'm already very excited about it. I didn't really want to go down the WIR route, as I love them free ranging but it makes more sense and I can reclaim my little lawn (at the moment a mudslide, but once the girls are in the run I can returf what they have wrecked!!) and I know they will be safe in there. ClaireG
It will give you peace of mind with the fox roaming around. As you know mine are in a WIR 99% of the time and are very happy
Space Chick
My Girls are in the WIR most of the time, but have supervised free ranging every day (unless the weather is awful ), they are very happy. The beauty of the WIR is the height, so you could add tables etc to give them more interest and"floor" space
coco
We are getting one soon too. OH is going to get the wood and start it this weekend [ weather permitting]. hopefully it will be finished before winter so I'm not wading through mud. Guest
I am sure they will love it - and it will give you peace of mind. Having it slabbed is such a good idea and makes cleaning out so much easier Looking forward to seeing the photos - have been looking through your lovely blog gallery on here - really gorgeous chickens

Olly
Congratulations - I love my WIR and it has transformed my hen-keeping. You can still let them free-range when you're around to supervise, but at least you'll know they are safe when you can't be there. I agree with ANH, you'll wonder why you didn't do it earlier! sari
I am starting the transformation of the greenhouse this weekend.....I can't stand the crawling into the run. I'm an ex-nurse, and have back and shoulder problems, hence the ex-nurse! A WIR is the only way to go for me.....
