Spoke to Chris at Bay Animal Housing today and he confirmed the delivered date. I'm praying that the weekend weather remains fine so we can get it installed and our chooks in!!!

Please let us know how you get on with this - the good, the bad and the ugly . Have had a quick butchers at the site and the WIRs look good and seem very reasonably priced. Can I ask if yours is going on some kind of hard standing?

Well, we now have a WIR!!! We have taken photos during the day but there's no way they'll be put on here tonight.................. we're absolutely EXHAUSTED! It was easy to put the panels together but still took us quite a while. It fits really well on the perimeter slabs - so pleased that we left the interior as earth for 'scratching' - and is very secure. The two most fiddly parts were fitting the door fixtures and attaching deep lawn edging around the bottom to keep the woodchippings in. (We decided against the wood trim purely on cost but it would have been an easier option!!).

 

We will attach the plastic roof tomorrow - too tired to attempt by late afternoon - and also start the process of joining the eglu to the outside of the WIR. As a temporary measure, we've put the eglu in the run and the chooks seem so settled already - phew!

 

I can't believe we've got our longed-for WIR!!! I promise photos will be on tomorrow.

First stage photos - Shame we can't move much now due to bad backs - and I am not posting the photo of the broken chair, which was obviously not built very well and nothing to do with the large meal last night!

Well, as Frenchie155 says (he's my husband, by the way!!) these are the first stage photos. We've added the roof today - and not a lot else!! If my back's better tomorrow, I'll start the eglu / WIR joining stuff. The rglu is currently in the run which isn't a problem but it will be so much easier for egg collection and cleaning when it's in it's proper location.

 

(I've put our extended run on the Omlet 'For Sale' bit of the forum, if anyone's interested?!!)

Can't wait to finish things off. We've been collecting long branches etc for perches to make life fun and my daughters have loads of zany ideas to keep the chooks entertained.

You have done loads. Its amazing how much hard work it is getting these WIR/slabs all done so can appreciate how you feel this weekend. Well done for getting as much done as you have. Hope your back feels easier soon. Dont the weekends fly when you are doing something like this.

 

Its so much nicer for the chickens to have that extra room, sure your girls appreciate it too.
