Best friends

Since our elderly Australian terrier died in June, shortly after the girls arrived, Libby the retriever has treated the chickens as honorary dogs. She keeps an eye on them, barks to let me know if they've escaped and sniffs round the garden in their wake, looking as if she's trying to share their enthusiasm for slugs and other delights.

Today I found her sitting in the rain beside the !gored! - obviously feeling that if they had to be out in this miserable weather, she should show solidarity with them by sitting there too.

Bless her - it was so sweet (but too wet for photos) :)

Oh, how sweet! :D I hope our dog takes a liking to the chickens when they arrive and understands they're part of the gang as well. I'm dreading it a bit, but hopefully everything will work out if we just take things slowly. Fingers crossed!

Our doggy Ben has been absolutely fine with our girls, he seems to love watching them as much as we do! :D

Mind you, today it's been absolutely pouring down with rain and he watched me from the patio door trying to rain-proof their Eglu and run!!
