oxstu
afternoon all we've had our chickens for a month now, and in the last couple of days one has started laying. In the last couple of hours we've noticed she's a bit uncomfortable, standing still, arching her back and sticking her bum in the air. Any ideas? many thanks stu
Egluntyne
Maybe she is working up to a big egg. I'm sure you are keeping an eye on things.
oxstu
hope so, here eggs so far have been quite small, though, as i said, she's only just started. stu
oxstu
she's just laid a soft egg, which ginger, her eglumate is tucking into, and then the shell of another, so it sounds like problem has passed.
craftyhunnypie
Oooo that could have nearly been an egg in an egg! That really does happen sometimes!

The Dogmother
Glad to hear it oxstu - sometimes when they start laying, it takes a while for their egg-laying tackle to settle down. She should be ok now, but at least you now know what to look for.
Popcorn
Glad to read a happy ending here Oxstu. They do act oddly when they have a soft shelled egg to come out. I'd try to clean the egg up before they eat it. If they get a taste for their eggs you might find they start to eat the ones they have laid for you.
