Cube inside or outside of WIR .

Recommended Posts

Almost saved enough for a WIR, not sure who to go with ?

Bay housing or Averies4U ?

All those with WIRs .

Is your Cube inside or out of the run ?

How accessible is it for cleaning ?

If your cube is on the out side of the run, is the pop hole secure against

the run ? ( Although in town we do have foxes .) And when you remove the cube

for cleaning is there a cover for the hole ?

If inside how messy does it get doing a thorough deep clean ?

( Hope this makes sense. I would like my cube on the outside as i can only have a small WIR.

8 'x6' So the removing of the cube to take lid off must leave the run secure.)

I'd definitely say A4U - we have three runs from them and they are briliant. Very well built.

My eglus and cubes are inside the WIRs. I just prefer them like that but I can see the benefits of having them outside. I just wanted them all neatly contained within the runs.

They are brilliant for cleaning as you just rake them out when the aubiouse needs changing.

There's no problem. I pressure wash my cubes every time we do a complete clean and then wipe them out with poultry shield each week.

Thanks Janty,

i had paving laid a few weeks ago with a WIR in mind.

I hadn't thought of the access needed around the fencing and trees at the time , so

the actual size of the ground space is just over half unless i have a sloping roof from

say 4' to 6' . Then if i do the cube will go inside.

But !!!!! the cube out side would mean more room for my visits to them,

and for poo picking. More area for perches and toys for the girls.

Isn't it awful having to decide ? once done i have to live with it

We have a classic and a newly-installed WIR. After much deliberation, we've placed the eglu outside the run and are delighted with this decision. :D:D It's so easy to clean, collect eggs and open/close door. Our WIR is 12'x 5' so we wanted to maximise the interior space. I'd opt for outside placement everytime!!

Mine is outside and would recommend it for you due to space. It makes it easy to get to doors for closing them in or looking for eggs. I have a slot for the roof so can take it off without moving the cube. The cube goes up against the run with the ladder inside and no holes for anything to get in. Having it outside doesn't mess up the run when I clean it.

The inside is easy to rake through and I poo pick each day. The bedding lasts for weeks and weeks but I chuck some stalosanF down occasionally. I've got clear tarpaulins I hang up when needed though to keep things dry. :D

Mine is from Bay and I love it but I think Aviary4U are built better but cost more.

I will be going for a quote from A4U and the cube will have to go on the outside.

I'm spoiling the girlies and letting them have all the space i can, also saves on

costs , by not having hatches every where to get access to nest box etc .

Which means i will be able to have a WIR sooner than expected :D

Our WIR is from A4U and it's 24ft by 7ft and we have an Eglu at one end that we use at the moment for our new girls. At the other end we have a Cube that is right in the corner and our 4 ex batts live in that. We have a hatch on the outside to get to the egg port and double half height doors behind the Cube so that we can take the trays out and also take the top and back off the Cube to clean it. We also have a small hatch right in one corner for the ex batts to get out into the back border of the garden. It took us ages to decide where to site the Cube, I was more in favour of having it outside but my OH wanted to be sure it was safely inside the run.

My WIR is from Avaries4U and is really well made :D I have a cube on the outside and a classic inside on a table. The cube is easier outside and is right up against the opening so is secure. There is a door over the hole in the WIR that you close if you move the cube away. The eglu went inside as it is harder to make the connection secure because the front of the classic is sloped. Hope yours all works out well - my WIR was so worth the money and is less work with twice as many hens :D

I also have an A4U run and having compared it with a few other types of run since I built mine, I can say for sure they are extremely good in every respect. I have two classics, and they are both inside my 15' x 6' run. To save floor space, one is on a table, with the other underneath.

Very happy with my setup.
