Skin Care for Pre-Teen

Recommended Posts

Little Miss Webmuppet has started getting blocked pores on her face and wants to stop the problem before it takes hold. She is a keen dinghy sailor and spends her weekends outdoors in all weathers so she really does need to start looking after her skin.

She does try to pinch my skin care stuff but obviously stuff for a fourty somethings face isn't really suitable for a pre-teen.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to products I could get her to reduce the blocked pore problem and that would also give her face some protection against the elements?

She will only use cruelty free products.

When I was that sort of age, the best products that worked for me were the Boots own brand ones, in purple containers. I think they're now called Boots Skin Clear like this http://www.boots.com/en/Boots-Skin-Clear-Exfoliating-Facial-Wash-150ml_1110471/

I have no idea how ethical it was, I'm 29 now and the only thing that doesn't start my skin erupting in eczema is Garnier Nutritionist!

A good steam, followed by a gentle scrub is what is needed.

Its probably a good idea for her to start a cleanse & moisturise programme now too.

There is a range called 'Young Skin' or 'My Skin' (or something!)in pretty white floral packaging, which both of my girls have used in the past to great effect. They do everything from wipes to scrub & moisturiser.

My girls now use Garnier wipes as they are very gentle (I use them too!), then mattifying moisturisers.

Unfortunately it will be trial & error to find the right brand for her skin, but if you start with the gentle ones like Simple then you will be on the right track.

My daughter uses products from Lush, as she has some terrible blocked pores, and it embarrasses her. She is very clean.......not a smelly teen -yet!

She uses

9 to 5 cleanser, cupcake fresh mask....well we all do, as it only lasts a few weeks, and also fresh farmacy facail soap. Her Dad uses this as well, as he has bad skin ( it must be where she gets hers from :( ). She uses ultra light, as well, if she needs it, or nivea soft white moisturiser. Hope this helps, and Lush are completely cruelty free, and lots of their stuff is vegan.

I agree - the Lush fresh masks are brill.

I use Catastrophe Cosmetic myself - its all Blueberryish 8)

The Ocean Salt scrub is great too,but possible too harsh for very young skin. Its a lovely scrub that doesn't leave the bath all gritty like others,as the flakes of salt dissolve.

They do some cracking moisturisers too,& the staff should be able to help you to choose some appropriate goodies.

We are big fans of Lush but Suffolk doesn't have a Lush shop :( . I have to wait 'til I go to my Dads in Peterborough to go to Lush ( it's probably for the best, I spend a fortune in there!). I won't be going to Peterborough until just before Christmas ( got to deliver all those lovely homemade goodies just in time for Christmas).

I will have a word with the lovely folks at Lush when I go in December.

In the mean time I will pick her up a few bits from the supermarket to get her into good habits.

How about looking into skincare from Pure Nuff Stuff? It's a natural skincare brand with no synthetic ingredients, so it's very very gentle and all totally cruelty free (BUAV approved). I buy just about all of my skin and hair care from there and just love it. Don't be put off by the fact that it costs more than high street products as in my experience a little of their products goes a long way. I probably only buy two pots of moisturiser a year, for example.

When my daughters were young they tried many products, a lot of trial and error. They both ended up using a baby soap ,a facial buff puff ( boots and superdrug sell them ) and the "pink" oil of ulay sensitive skin. After sports (they carried simple facial wipes to school) to combat the grease which blocked there skin.

My girls grew up in the Gulf so were also coated in sun block all the time followed by after sun products and showers were frequent just to cool down under with T shirts on......hot hot hot !!!

You will have to experiment i'm afraid as her skin will change as she grows.
