Harmony in the hen-partment!

Recommended Posts

Very pleased to report that things are still going well with our girls and thought you might like to see some more pictures since I've added the extension to their run :D:D:D

(L-R) Hilda, Elsie and Dottie

Lots of room for playing, running and flapping around, not to mention in-house/run dustbath

Lovely ladies! :D Also, the extension looks nice and it makes the run look well big. I've been thinking about getting one (so that I could maybe keep three hens at some point). Is the run more difficult to clean with the extension? I suppose you'd need a long rake to be able to change the bedding in the run.

Aww Bev it looks brilliant and your girls are very beautiful indeed. :D I so love the pink colour, and am envious as really wanted pink set up but alas hubby refused and had to go for boring green. :silenced:

I bet they love the extension to the run. Yours girls look very happy. Are they all laying now ? xx

Thank you green :D

I don't know about cleaning the actual run, but it does seem a bit heavier and it took hubbly and me to move it at the weekend.

If we decide not to keep moving it to a fresh patch of grass, we may look at laying something suitable down over the top of the grass.

Can still clean out the Elgu/roosting bars/nesting box easily :D

I got a nice long rake in Asda last week for about £5, thought it'd come in handy.

Thanks Deb - I love the pink colour too, I'm very lucky in that I've got a very understanding hubbly :D:D:D

They do seem to like their new run and I'm thoroughly enjoying watching them - especially as I've now realised I can sit in the nice, warm, dry kitchen and watch through the patio door! :D

Dottie's still giving us an egg every day, bless her - regular as clock/dot-work she is!:D

Hilda and Elsie haven't laid as yet, to my knowledge. One of our fellow Omleteers mentioned the other day that Hilda looks to be close to laying because her comb is nice and red :D They're about 18 and a bit weeks old now, so hopefully we'll get an egg from them soon.

Hope your girls are all keeping well xxx :D

What a nice hen-partment - very girlie! Promise me that you will not put a rooster in there, he would get crazy with all that pink!

A little question: What is that green thing you have hanged in the run?

:lol::lol: oooh no Charlie, it's girls only in the pink hen-partment!

I strung up some cabbage leaves for the girls - funnily enough only yesterday they realised it was food!:lol:

Also do the same with raisins, banana and Cheerios too! It took them a while to cotton on it's food with them too!!:lol:

You're very right, it's cabbage there hanging up - although it wasn't till yesterday they realised it was food!:lol:

Also do the same with raisins, cheerios and banana - they seem to like it, once they've cottoned on!

Glad to see they are all getting along. I was wondering if you got some friends for Dottie. I hope my introductions go as well as yours have!

Thank you Gertie, yes so far so good. We had a little bit of nastiness in the early days however once I tried to seperate them, they decided they all love each other really and wanted to be together!!:lol::D:clap:

Wishing you well with your intros too, will watch out for your news xx :D

I believe Wilkos sells clear shower curtains. I bought a clear corrugated plastic sheet over mine as I thought I'd be able to attach it more securely and the flapping wouldn't scare the girls, but the curtain above looks fab and well secured. :D

Here's the extension for a Go (I was checking the extensions sections just now, quite fancy getting one!).
