Keep getting water on newspaper i use to line bottom of my go . None on roosting bars, none on sides/ roof. And girls not got diarohera . Any ideas please as worried what with the weather getting cold.

Ditto under the poo tray in my eglu. Is it coming in from gap between tray and roof?

I've not noticed any water in our Eglu, but will keep an eye out now you've both mentioned.

 

Wonder how it's getting in - not through the Eggport door perhaps?

I got water under one of the poo trays of my cube as well...but not anywhere else.. may be I should give Omlet a call as well ?!

arn't thay fab at omlet . Guys must make sure is on a flat surface and not blocking water holes in base. I'm not so nice man is comming out in two weeks to have a check Any one eles having that problem??

Is it actually leaking, or is the newspaper just damp?

 

I usually advise against using newspaper as it will wick any dampness in the atmosphere towards it and get soggy.

In our classic there are holes in the bottom letting out water when you clean it, its probably the same in all the eglus. You should make sure that its got good drainage there, but ours are full of snails!!! p.s, wev never had any problems with water in the house

Just another thought, make sure the shade is covering the doorway properly because rain can blow in!

Oh no Claret, I've been using newspaper for the droppings tray is that no good then?

 

I use shredded paper (junk mail/brochures etc) for the nest box - is that no good either?

Just use Aubiose (hemp bedding) inside the house and in the run; it absorbs any damp and it nice and dry when you want to compost it.

Thanks Claret, I've just got some Aubiose today - I bet I looked a picture as I managed to actually crawl into the run to rake it out! Have put some in the run and another wodge in their droppings tray

 

The girls are currently having a field day scratching around in it!!

Can you use it directly on top of soil ? just wondering if it will be ok to use for the exbats in the Go when get it. xx

You could - but it would soon get very soggy, as it would act like a wick to any dampness in the soil.

I've put it on top of the garden/grass that's turning to mud Deb, but I've also got their 'designer' Wilkinsons shower curtain over the top of the run as well for when it rains!

My cube run is currently covered with a clear tarp and has soil under the Aubiose, it is dry and clean. I am going to pave under the whole run (currently only slabbed under the edges) in the next few weeks when I add another extension to the run. It just makes it easier to rake out and clean.

 

I use Aubiose in everything... run, poo trays, nest box, bunnies hutch. I got into it a few years back after my dear friend Dilly (forum member) showed me some.

where can you get it? we get all opur supplies from a country store who mainly have horse things but do a few chicken things too.

Most feed suppliers will stock it, or order it in for you. If you google for their website, it has a list of stockists on it, or you can call them.

I got ours from a horsey place that's next to our farm butcher, so very handy. I noticed they had a few different 'types' as well as the Aubiose

Try to get Aubiose in preference to wood chip - the wood seems to get all damp and clumpy - it doesn't compost as well either.

 

My order of preference would be: Aubiose... Hemcore...Rapport.
