migsy
I've got one of those. Lovely looking bird. Very timid and flighty though. I just want mine to lay an egg Where are you getting it from?
craftyhunnypie
We've got her from a breeder near Congleton. She is lovely - approx 18 weeks. We have introduced her to the others with an Araucana, we've been wanting to put in with the others for some time. The Araucana ( Betty Boop) went along the balcony of the shed, pecked 2 of the older ladies & jumped on the perch between them. Annie the new Ancona went into a nest box. Whether she too will go on the perch, I don't know - hubby will look a bit later no doubt. She's got brilliant yellow legs & didn't mind being held. Griffin
Doughnut, my Ancona, was a bit vocal so she went to live at my friends stud farm. She utterly adores him and follows him around like a lost puppy She also has a naughty habit of roosting in trees and taking herself off for a wander
migsy
Margo my ancona once perched on the washing line. She was very wobbly!
beach chick
am I the only one thinking of the comedienne Ronnie Ancona??
craftyhunnypie
Hmm Annie the Ancona flew up on the shed roof today & enjoyed the view. She was also hard to catch at bedtime & was looking up at the trees. At least she's not being picked on. Emma.x
Griffin
Never a dull moment with an Ancona
The Dogmother
They are lovely Emma - I have an Ancona Bantam, she's very affectionate and follows me everywhere in the garden. As they moult and get older, they have more white speckles.
migsy
am I the only one thinking of the comedienne Ronnie Ancona?? Nope! I thought that Ronnie would be a good name for an Ancona but I thought of it too late.
craftyhunnypie
Hmm she was busy weeding the drive for me when I got back from doing the posting. She then followed me round the back & met the other flocks of chooks - very sweet - not too keen on being caught though. She'll get better when she comes into lay. I can see she will be a comedy chook. Emma.x
migsy
Are Anconas likely to get bulllied? My parents are looking after my chickens at the moment and they tell me that Spike, the Speckledy, who they have renamed "Bully" headbutted Margo's (the Ancona) egg out of the eglu. It landed on the lawn. They saw her do it! They have renamed Margo "Snowflake" as well. Margo also has to go into the eglu early to avoid being denied entry. BocBoc
Snap! I got my Ancona bantam (called Bobbins) on Sunday. She's a timid little thing but seems to be settling in well. I have read up on how flighty they can be so I'll be interested to see how she gets on - we don't have any trees in our garden but we do have low walls and a shed Love the name you've chosen....! They are lovely looking birds, you made a good choice
The Dogmother
Mine is a very assertive girl and cuddly too. I wouldn't worry too much, they'll work it out.
