AS I have upgraded to a cube from a classic my 4 girls looked small in the cube so I bought 3 more on Fri. I was going to do the whole slow integration thing but the lady at the hatcher (who always seems very knowlegable) said no just slip the new ones into the cube when the others were asleep and then in the morn watch them. She says they will peck for about 6 days and then calm down but obviously watch out for blood and remove immediatly if any :  I hardly slept fri night and was awake worrying yest morn (my birthday) So at 7 am I got up and all in the cube was quiet. As it was bright I left them out and the fighting began. I was seriously concerned that the neighbours would complain about the noise  They calmed down thankfully. This morn I left them out at 7.30 and there was no fighting, still a bit noisy and pecky though but not as bad so all is looking good. Original chickens light sussex, araucane, and 2 silkies. new chickend wynnedot sp? maran and bluebell. THe currrent situation is that the Araucane Nelly is tying to be boss and is pecky. seems to have given up on wynndot (called winegum) but is till pecky to the maran Rose and the bluebell Sally. I think its going ok really other than the fact that the maran and the bluebell are hiding from the araucane although they are bigger  so they are happily sitting on top of the classic and pooing all over it  I have left both the classic and cube open during the day but close them all into the cube at night. I have put a seperate post about my new maran being very smelly :anxious: so am wondering if this is making the araucane dislike her too ??

If you read my thread "We Doubled Our Flock" (I think it's gone down to page 2 or 3ish) you will see we did a very fast integration with three new girls to our existing three. It was purely unintentional, we bought the three new girls from our neighbour when he was selecting chickens to slaughter for the table. I had every intention of "doing things gradual", but before I knew what hit us the three girls were popped over the fence in with our girls  I think it happened so quickly our three girls thought Scotty had "beamed them down" - they just appeared to them from out of the sky  Although I felt concerned it was quite comical - our girls just stood transfixed staring at them, as if to say where did you three come from ??? They fitted in really quickly and all settled within a few days, they all went off to bed happily together the first night. Over here, they would not dream of doing gradual integrations, they don't think of them as pets like we all do - it's just the way it is :eh: They think were a bit strange that we walk our dogs every day and we lock the house up at night. :?
