John lewis advert.

Recommended Posts

the dog just looks so sad when the kid walks away... :(

i am SO tragic, the whole ad makes me cry. and the one last year did too.

but then, I cry at those iPhone ads where the families have video conference calls with each other.

i am SUCH a baby.

on the upside, I laugh my head off at the anchor butter advert with the cow factory. what could be funnier than a cow in a hat. gets me every time.

I think the scene upset people because the kennel looked quite old and rickety, there was a snow storm blowing, the kennel was situated quite a way from the house so would not even benefit from any residual heat coming from the building, it was located in an exposed area (it looked coastal to me) and the house (in comparison) looked so warm and inviting so it did look quite cruel that the dog was stuck out there on its own. Especially on Christmas Day!

I think you'd have to be pretty cold hearted not to at least think, 'awww, poor dog'.

As I said earlier, a lot of us worry about our chickens in the cold weather so is it all that unreasonable people would find that scene a little upsetting? After all, that dog had absolutely no decent shelter from that awful weather.

Yes, it's an advert but people cry at coronation street and that's not real either.

I must be cold hearted then :lol:

Actually I think its pretty pathetic that people have nothing better to do than fret over an advert & start a Facebook campaign about it

It is only an advert,& I thought the dog in the kennel bit, with the boy bringing him a stocking was really sweet in the context of the ad.

But then again I do work for the company :lol:

do you honestly feel that the dog kennel depicted in the advert was perfectly adequate for the dog?

I know it's only an advert, I even said so myself, but if adverts are intended to influence people then in some respects I think it's important what message they seem to be conveying.

I am not one of the "pathetic" ones fretting over the ad or joining facebook groups about it by the way, just wanted to point that out.

Don't much care to be honest...

have to say, that made me  bearing in mind you work for John Lewis and the tag line at the end of the ad is...

'For those who care about showing they care'

Good point

I don't care cos its just an advert.....40 seconds of escapism

I like the ad,love the song and enjoy the sentiment but am not going to lose sleep over a stunt dog in a fake kennel, sitting in a warm set with a wind machine.

In my opinion anyone who decides to mistreat a pet on this basis must be incredibly stupid and shallow

I wonder if we would be so concerned if an advert featured a person sleeping on the street

yes, that would upset me too.

Is there something wrong with feeling empathy/sympathy/concern? Whether you think it's misplaced or not. Seems to be

I wonder when we're going to draw a line under this one and stop having a poke at people who actually did find that part of the ad upsetting.

I

Some people are like a dog with a bone (excuse the pun)when it comes to certain things. Let those that care join the facebook group and those that don't get on with life. :D

I still like John Lewis.

who is that comment aimed at christian?

I care but i don't want to join a FB group. Nothing changes on this forum does it.

I too love the advert Cinnamon. Love John Lewis, love the music & love the Christmassy feel to the advert. I like how everyone is trying to hide their presents under coats & sneak them upstairs etc.

I'd love to have staff discount at Waitrose & John Lewis. 8) Just reading their magazine as I type this & bought a Delia Xmas cake kit today.

It's just an advert - please let's just enjoy the music & nice prezzies they are showing. Mmm I'd like them all.

John Lewis Oxford Street is my spiritual home... I could live there!

but: hate the song! the ad is clearly an ad, with snow machine etc, designed by clever people in ad-land to tug at the heartstrings and thus flog more product at Christmas. so they are doing their jobs - and gettting people to talk about it too, which is even cleverer really as they have managed to increase awareness significantly over the amount spent on making and broadcasting the ad.
