kerryegg
Lovely advert evcept who would leave a beautiful Deerhound outside in a snow covered kennel. Anyone with a large dog knows they belong inside a centrally heated house on the sofa!
Lewis
I love Ellie Gouldings cover of Your Song!
kerryegg
Yes I think the song is great and hadn't realised that she was the singer. She is getting a lot of coverage in our local paper as she is from Herefordshire, predicted christmas number 1 apparently.
Cinnamon
I haven't seen the ad yet,but I did hear the song on the radio yesterday & loved it - its a favourite of mine anyhow. I loved their ad last year too, although the song was either a love or hate thing.
Dizzy-Deb
I love the ad too and the song. I did spot there was a bit of 'upset' over the ad with the pooch in the kennel at the end, about the message it is sending out that it is OK to keep a dog outside in the cold in a kennel. kerryegg
Brilliant, thanks for you post. To be honest ours will lie outside in snow if we let him but I did feel the ad was likely to annoy some people. It was too much like the abandoned dogs adverts which I find so depressing but not so bad as the footage of appeals to help children. Rant over for now. Out to clean out the chickens who depite my best efforts keep standing out in the rain.
Seagazer
I love the ad and the song is beautiful, I must admit I did think 'ahh poor dog' but it didn't put me off the ad.
Alis girls
Loved the guy wrapping candlestick - if he had taken candles out might have been a tad easier to wrap
Egluntyne
A lovely feel good advert, with nothing in it that could possibly offend anybody.
Guest
I wasn't keen on the dog being kept out in that awful weather either but then it's only an advert. Still, didn't like it though...
docsquid
I believe they have withdrawn or modified the doggy bit, after complaints were received. I hope they keep the song though - it's lovely.
The Dogmother
A lovely feel good advert, with nothing in it that could possibly offend anybody. I love it too, and feel the same. But some sorts have been up in arms about animal cruelty. The dog in question - a hound called Rannoch - is owned by a member of a lurcher forum that I visit; you couldn't meet a more loved dog. I hear that there has been a whole facebook campaign against the thought that the ad 'promotes cruelty', apparently, this is one of the replies... 'Thank you so much for this campaign. I keep my dog in the house but, having watched the John Lewis ad, I've built him a kennel and was planning to make his live outside. Your campaign has helped me to see the error of my ways. Without your dedication, I dread to think how many other animals would have been caused unnecessary suffering.' Wasn't Nana in Peter pan kept outside in a kennel? I don't recall any outcry in those days.
Alis girls
Dog bit is still in ad tonight. What about the chucks, bunnies and other animals living outside.?

Chucky Mama
What a load of nonsense I bet those dogs in kennels have less skin conditions that those in centrally heated houses. It obviously wouldn't be very nice to chuck a house dog out into a kennel one day but dogs kennelled all the time are quite happy and kennels can be snug and warm. No one worries about bringing cows into their house in the winter.
The Dogmother
....No one worries about bringing cows into their house in the winter. Don't laugh, in the last two weeks I have been asked whether chickens can be brought in to watch TV of an evening, and if it's OK to kiss them
Guest
the kennel on that ad didn't look as cosy as an eglu....omlet are missing a trick surely....they could have made a doglu especially for john lewis!
Egluntyne
My childhood dog, Kim, just a Manchester Tripehound, always slept outside in his kennel. He lived to be 14, and a happier, healthier, gentler dog you'd be hard pressed to find.

Don't laugh, in the last two weeks I have been asked whether chickens can be brought in to watch TV of an evening, and if it's OK to kiss them I remember my old pony who stayed out in all weathers with no rug or anything. He had 2 shelters but rarely used them. He was very happy even though he used to get frozen whiskers. He grew a lovely shaggy coat like a bison and lived to a grand old age. The Dogmother
How about this for a doglu then? Most dogs can live outside, it's just that we choose to humanise them, and like to have them indoors with us. My grandparents had working spaniels which lived in lovely outdoor kennels. Ruby is part Saluki, so she's a desert gazelle hound and only has a thin single coat. She needs to be indoors as she doesn't have enough fat or coat to keep her warm. Powerlady
My brother and SIL were shepherds and their working dogs had some lovely kennels. What we have to remember is that it's an advert..not real in this particular incidence although it obviously does happen! Pretty sure we'd ALL be healthier if our homes weren't so warm..but I aint about to find out!
Chucky Mama
What we have to remember is that it's an advert.. I totally agree. Remember that very famous advert with the horses in high waves in the sea. No one complained that it promoted taking your horse surfing
Powerlady
No? I used to take my horses surfing..skateboarding too..
