Cuttlefish and chooks?

Recommended Posts

Hi I've kept meaning to ask this for ages, but seeing cuttlefish for sale on omlet has re-ignited my curiosity.

Regularly on our local beach we see washed up cuttlefish ... can i give these to the chooks or would it need to be soaked or treated someway to remove any salt etc or just a quick wash???

any ideas anyone????

then do you need to grind it up or will they eat/scratch it like a budgie does~???

I don't have experience of washed-up cuttlefish. I guess the main problem would be to remove the salt.

Some time ago, I put a cuttlefish bone in for my chickens (with a clip on the run, like I would for a budgie). They completely ignored it! So I would be very interested to hear what other people's chickens make of it.
