LJ's Chooks
Hi I've kept meaning to ask this for ages, but seeing cuttlefish for sale on omlet has re-ignited my curiosity. Regularly on our local beach we see washed up cuttlefish ... can i give these to the chooks or would it need to be soaked or treated someway to remove any salt etc or just a quick wash??? any ideas anyone???? then do you need to grind it up or will they eat/scratch it like a budgie does~??? alet_chicken
I don't have experience of washed-up cuttlefish. I guess the main problem would be to remove the salt. Some time ago, I put a cuttlefish bone in for my chickens (with a clip on the run, like I would for a budgie). They completely ignored it! So I would be very interested to hear what other people's chickens make of it.

beach chick
the seagulls drop them in our field all the time... the only person that seems interested is the dog!!!
Chortle Chook
I recently saw some chooks in a garden center really tucking into a cuttlefish so I bought one for my hens. They totally ignored it. I wondered if the ones in the garden center were eating it because it was the only treat they got.
daxigirl
Mine pulled it off the run and it is now trashed under foot in the bark chips, never pecked.

Mulberry
WE have had a cuttlefish hanging on a piece of string in the run for months now. Girls ignored it until yesterday, when they ate about half of it.
LolaLayla
I have had cuttlefish clipped to the inside of the run for the past 8 months and it has been ignored too!
Mollie333
Cuttlefish was ignored by the girls, put it outside the run, it was gone the next day, SOMETHING enjoyed it, but not the girls!
