LJ's Chooks
Why oh why oh why..... are chickens one of the smartest creatures for so many things, but then they stupidly decide to moult at the coldest time of the year EVER!!!!! Rosie, was starting to look a bit s"Ooops, word censored!"py and has now decended into a huge moult. through the entire summer and autumn she looked a stunning Gold laced orpington reverse..... err kind of like a buff with chocolate lacing, she is stunning, then snow and minus 14 and she goes into a massive moult and hardly has any feathers!!!!!! She is usually one of our smartest chooks but clearly is a little bit daft.... she's not a huge fluff ball anymore and looks more like a just escaped ex-bat. She's doing the whole moult strop aswell, no energy for walking around or playing games, leave me alone I'm growing new feathers pout is fully engaged!!! Poor love!!!!! Roll on spring time!!!! beach chick
I have Chardonnay the Sussex, who is coming up for 4 years old, looking like an ex-feather duster, all raggy and scraggy, but lots of nice new quills coming through round her neck. Lavender the araucana seems to have moulting since about July, but is finally looking almost done. and now Shirley the Sussex has started... I have suggested they might like to look their best for Christmas, but they just muttered and said "a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do"

sadietoo
My light sussex is singlehandedly attempting to make our garden look like a pillow fight...but she started to moult back in the summer, then seemed to think better of it...obviously it wasn't cold enough! CrazyDaizy
Yes, they do tend to moult at the most stupid times of year don't they? My one chook moulted a few weeks back, feathers everywhere!!! Now the other has decided now is a good time to moult too I can't believe how many feathers they lose!!!
