Broody pekin ?

Recommended Posts

Squeak my frizzle is spending a lot of time on the nest, she is on it when I open the eglu door in the morning and shut it at night and whenever I check them in the day. I lift her off and she goes and eats and drinks quite happily but has stopped laying and looks very pancakeish :o This is my first experience of this - I am worried she will be cold on her own in a broody cage - could I try a plantpot over the nest first? None of the other bantams are laying

Our silkie has just started to hatch hers and one of the orpie's eggs. Stupid bird! I have given her a stern talking to and plonked her down in the snow to cool off. Thing is she's heating up the whole street when I'd rather her just conserve her energy while it's so cold. And she screams when you unpancake her.

I have had a broody pekin since late september. No matter what I do, even caging her for days, she hot foots it back on to the nest  I make sure she eats and drinks daily and give her a quick once over every couple of days. Her condition is good, and as it's far too cold to do the 'dunk in a bucket of water' treatment, I'm just letting her get on with it :?

Thanks, all good advice - I will try the snow trick  There is no screaming yet (apart from mine  ) and she doesn't seem to mind being removed. She is eating and drinking when I turf her out and I have given her some nutridrops :) I will give her the benefit of the doubt and let her nest although she hasn't laid for a couple of days.

I just put her down and she's up in no time at all and eager to eat. But I do have to turf her out of the nest box at night. She is a persistent little broody when she wants to be but I'm hoping the cold will sort her out. I have to turf the others out of the nest box too because they are just pains in the bum and want to sleep there.
