Snoxy
Just wanted to share what happened with my girls this week... As you may have read we collected 5 ex batts last week...Florence, Enid, Grace, Audrey and Beatrix...all seemed fine when we got them home...Monday morning Audrey was laying in the run...thought she had passed away...her comb was badly pecked...i got her out and sprayed her comb with gentian spray...put her in a cosy box and kept her in the house...she couldn't stand up bless her...fed her tuna by hand and gave her Nutridrops and Lifeguard tonic via a syringe...I knew she couldn't stay in the box for long so the following day i took the plunge and popped her back into the Eglu...she has slowly got perkier over the days and is now standing although she hasn't ventured into the run as the others have yet...she is eating very well. I think she is going to make it On the down side...I lost two girls on Friday morning...Clara was my Speckledy and was moulting...and Eliza was one of the girls I got from Mini Meadows recently...I discovered she had prolapsed just before I put her to bed...although she seemed fine in herself. I found both of them side by side on the floor of the hen house frozen...a very sad sight...I guess the cold finished them off bless them I am still wondering what happened to my beautiful Stella who disappeared a couple of weeks ago...guess I will never know I am I don't lose anymore girls...all seem very well and perky so fingers crossed Despite losing 3 girls suddenly I have to say I absolutely LOVE being a hen keeper...hope I always have hens

jennydavies
Oh Snoxy - how awful for you, the thought of finding two of your girls like that is so terribly sad. My heart goes out to you, I sincerely hope your ex-bats keep getting stronger I really do feel for all you folks getting this horrendous weather. We are extremely humbled and feel very fortunate that the weather here in winter is very mild. I can't imagine how bad weeks and weeks of snow would be.....
