Lesley
New programme on BBC2 tonight at 9pm - it was filmed near to where my cousin lives in the north of Minnesota and is a really beautiful part of the state, along the North Shore of Lake Superior. When we visited him we missed a big baby bear on his bird table by just 2 hours and my cousin's back yard is just like the woods where they filmed. He invited us to go and see his garden and pond...........which turned out to be a few acres of woodland and a lake so big that he has a canoe to get to the other side! His bird table is a 1 metre square slab of wood raised on 5 sturdy poles by the way Worth watching for the scenery alone.........
Patricia W
Thanks for that, Lesley - I love the woods and lakes of North America
craftyhunnypie
Thanks Lesley - I will watch that. When I was in New Jersey near to Newtown, Oma (granny) got visited by a bear in her kitchen! Luckily I wasn't there I would have been terrified. She just ran out the front door until it had gone. There were paw prints & some scratches where it had snatched food from the table. I remember the racoons, porcupines & chipmunks - I liked those. The chipmunks would eat the crumbs from my lunch box. :lol I'd also go a certain spot at dusk to see the racoons. I hated the skunks though. Pooooooooh. I remember being on the Queen Elizabeth Highway & a car that was a few infront of us had stopped with it's windows down & was feeding a baby bear! Beautiful creatures, but a bit scary! Emma.x

jill the potter
Facinating, but a bit contrived.
Lesley
I've a feeling they could have made it with just 2 programmes instead of 3 - abit drawn out. I spent most of the time in Google Maps and Streetview, revisiting the places we stopped at when we visited
soapdragon
What a great series A real change from the rather contrived reality progs all glitzy and glamour (not words you could use about dear Gordon although his hair is just wonderful!!) My boys (6 and a month short of 3) love it and the youngest has been walking round the house for the last few days cuddling his biggest bear calling 'Hey bear' and calling himself my little cub!! Clearly made a huge impression Don't think I can bring myself to show them the bit where Sarah was shot though life is tough and they have to learn so will brace for a few tears. How refreshing that these wonderful creatures are shown as gentle giants and not deamonised (sorry, can't spell tonight! ) I agree that it probably could have been two episodes but then the scenery IS fab! Did anyone catch Lost Land of the Volcano or Lost Land of the Tiger - both with Gordon and other really enthusiastic and knowledgable (still can't spell) bods? We two and boys watch these again and again! Korma Casserole Kiev
Lesley
Oh, I can just imagine your little one calling his bear I'm sure they'd cope with the episode about Sarah - it wasn't too graphic , just very sad.
Space Chick
I thought it was a truly stunning and magical series, and over the course of the 3 shows I found real affection for the people and for Lilly and Hope in particular. I felt genuinely afraid when they said about hunting season, and shed a few tears that Sarah had been shot This is one of the best things I have ever watched, I loved it
Lavenders_Blue
I just loved this series, it was compelling viewing and like you Space Chick, I found myself getting a knot in my stomach when the hunters arrived. I think Gordon did amazingly well to meet and speak to the hunters, I couldn't have done that after getting so attached to the bears (probably couldn't do it anyway without getting angry) and I can't believe he ate a bear burger The filming was great too, and Gordon is a natural and very good presenter. Was at a complete loss for something to watch tonight!
