Classic and the Go - size/space/housing

Recommended Posts

I was informed yesterday if my !goyellow! is 'good' then my mother will also get one. So I'm the testing before she's buying.:lol: We'll see, that's her idea at least but to be honest I don't know if she'll be able to compete with my amazing hens and amazing eggs. 8)

Anyway, we were discussing the differences between the Classic and Go and I came across the manual section of the website.

Classic: "Don’t keep more than 2 heavy breeds, 4 medium sized breeds (like the Gingernut Ranger and Miss Pepperpot) or six bantams in an eglu."

Go: Don’t keep more than 2 heavy breeds, 3 medium sized breeds (like the Gingernut Ranger and Miss Pepperpot) or six bantams in an Eglu Go.

Is there more space in the Classic's house or run?

(Also the heavy breeds and bantam numbers are the same :?: )

I'm not sure which run is bigger... maybe the classic a bit. But I'm sure the houses would take the same inside. I've had three big girls (orp, brahma and wyandotte) in a classic with an extension for a couple of months while they have been introduced into the flock and they have plenty of room. I had nine bantams cramming themselves in a go tonight (they have two other houses to choose from! (they have an electric fence so the run is not an issue for them.

I don't have a Go but Have seen one. Because the run is square, the Go looks bigger but i think the space is the same. I thought you could keep 4 medium Hens in a go and 3 in a classic. Have you seen this grid though, it says 4 in both!!

I'm sure people with all 3 will be along in a moment. There is quite a bit of space in the classic, but only a side door to access whereas the whole back of the Go comes off so easier access. My ex batts are medium and there is plenty of space but i dont have the roosting bars in at the moment so the whole space is one big nest with straw!

I'd say the space is the same in both. The main difference is the design, with the Go being more "boxy" and the Classic being more rounded. My personal opinion is that the classic is a better design as you have the egg port to access the eggs rather than needing to take the back off

I'd say 4 hybrids can sleep in the Go and the classic no problem. It's the run space that is the issue :D

That's a really interesting grid that Gertie linked to...Do Omlet REALLY reckon that the run capacity for each of their houses is the same as the house itself?

I've currently got 3 girls in a !gored! with extension & they are fine in the house but I'd worry if they weren't getting plenty of garden time as well, as the run just doesn't look big enough to keep them happy.

I've also got a (cube blue) - an ebay bargain, newly assembled and waiting to be occupied...It has the 3m run and the plan was to get another 2 large fowl (faverolles & Speckled Sussex I think) who, after an intro period, would be integrated with my 3 hybrids in the cube...leaving the !gored! free for, I thought, 4 bantams...

But I wasn't even sure that the (cube blue) run would be big enough for 5 girls, let alone the 10 that the grid suggests.....What do others think? I can't have a WIR, and I think my OH will leave home if I spend any more money on chicken housing at the moment...so I'm hoping 5 in the cube and 4 banties will be OK, even on those days when I'm out all the time and they don't get any FR time.

Hi, We got a go and think the space is much the same. I have two orps(lf) and they seem fine. The main reason for getting go instead of a classic was that the whole back comes off so really easy to do cleaning and my weekly "ha ha got you health check". !gogreen! Trying to talk oh round to a cube at the moment
