Healthy Eating Chat Part 2

Recommended Posts

Well done Clash! That's such an achievement.:clap::clap:

Onwards and downwards - I'm down to 15st 10lb now. It's weird how it stays and hovers and then jumps - then the next few days you weigh yourself just in case you are imagining it.

Don't feel guilty Griffin - you are entitled to have a HAPPY birthday. You've just hit a wretched plateau that's all. Just do what you have been doing and perhaps up the exercise or reduce the exercise - anything to get the body confused for a week or so and then do your normal routines. Frustrating I know. Sending hugs to cheer you up and give you a big boost.

I bought an exercise bike last weekend so that ought to help a bit. I like the bit that tells me how many calories I've burned  It's in my garage where my growers are so I get to admire them, listen to my Ipod, escape the kids and exercise all at the same time

I'm going to print off your post above - my GP and/or Practice Nurse won't let me have frequent cholesterol tests to see if anything will make a difference (I have FH version of high cholesterol so diet doesn't change it much) and as I'm back on Statins, which I want to come off, they no longer even do an annual test  The plan seems to get you onto Statins, test 3 months later and as long as cholesterol is lower then you are on Statins for life.......and I don't want to be on them for life :(

Tell them that I've had N0 prescribed medication, the Weight Watchers and Gym are to replace Statins treatment.

I did use a Tomato supplement for one month at the start

http://www.boots.com/en/Ateronon-30-capsules_953858

This was recommended by the Personal Trainer at the gym (not my GP or Practice Nurse) along with a diet high in Tomatoes and Oily Fish, which I've been having twice a week with Pasta, Rice or Salad for Lunch at work.

The tablets were expensive, £30.00 for 30 tablets (one per day for a month). They seemed to have worked for me.

The link is a bit rubbish !!!!! search for "Ateronon Capsules"

Thanks Clash - I'll have a look.

Unfortunately with FH it is almost impossible to change cholesterol level with diet - I tried for 2 years when I was first diagnosed (8.2) but eventually had to start statins (down to 5.5) - I want to come off them but last time I stopped taking them and took Omega 3 oils my level shot up to 11.2 and the lab technicians were so worried that they tested for thyroid as well which wasn't on the form  The PN phoned me before I was due to go back for the results

I'd like to try other things and be monitored but their view is start taking statins and stay on them :(

I lost half a pound this week :D - considering I had lunch out on Friday, a buffet on Saturday evening and lunch out yesterday I was happy with that! Nearly back to where I was on Christmas Eve......but not quite

Lesley.

Both my MIL & FIL were put on statins several years ago. 2 Xmases ago my MIL became very ill, stomach pains diarrhea on & off vomiting on & off. After 6 months of going backward & forward to GP and hospital for every test going she was ref to physiologist as GP said it was physiological. MIL not at all happy and was convinced the statins made her ill. She took the decision to stop taking them and hasn't looked back. FIL has had no problems what so ever but he now thinks he can eat whatever he like because he takes statins.

Thank you Sage - I certainly want to stop taking mine again. I'm going to make an appt. to see my GP and have a proper chat about it rather than just stop. As I said earlier, I would like to be monitored......I can't believe that GPs are happy to just leave people on long term medication. My Mum's memory has been really bad since she's been on Statins :? - mine isn't brilliant either now but everything I get will just be put down to menopause

I've had a good week so far and have lost weight - it seemed to take me a while to get back to being as careful as I was before Christmas......careful, but not careful enough. I told the group on Monday that I had to stop treating Monday as if it didn't count.......I've been to Aquafit and been weighed at WW so therefore I can eat anything I want/shouldn't be eating as Mondays don't count  Because I'd told everyone then I had to behave when I came home so I've had a good start to my week.

Well done - especially Griffin as I think you were getting a little bit grrrrrr with the weight misbehaving. :D

Today I weighed myself and it's hard to tell but it looks like 15 8 or 9, so I'm taking the larger number. Did my swimming again - didn't go last week as I had the lurgy, but managed to do my 100 - feeling rather shattered so perhaps I overdid it. OOOOOH the things we do to ourselves!!!!

I lost 2lbs last week!

I have been gaining rather than losing for a while

Last week I mostly ate, Pasta quiche, ryvita and light Philadelphia, lean bacon and mushroom muffins, feta and olive salad, baked potatoes, homemade vegetable soup, scouse, bananas and clementines.

When I say "I mostly ate" what I mean is I made each of the above and then divided it into portions - so the pasta quiche did 4 lunches with a side helping of sliced red pepper; the feta and olive salad (feta, olives, cucumber, sweet pepper, tomato and a little bit of onion) made 4 portions, I cooked enough bacon and mushrooms for 2 days the night before and microwaved as needed.

I know it's not revolutionary, but I do find that when I don't plan and don't prepare my food for a long day in the office I get tempted by crisps and chocolate from the machine in work.

Hello again, I haven't posted for a while but I've managed to lose 10lb over 5 weeks so feel quite chuffed. I've dropped a size in trousers and can tell I'm losing weight in other areas too as my clothes (especially undergarments :lol: ) feel so much more comfortable.

Well done redhotchick on your loss, I agree, planning in advance makes such a difference.

Well done everyone else too x

 Clash, all I can run is a bath!

:lol::lol: Personally I'd cause an earthquake if I started running - I consider it my duty to the inhabitants of this island not to!

Blinking weight shot up to nearly 16 again - mega route march yesterday seems to have made it drop back down to 15st 10 again. Bah! Just because I have a competition with a friend and it seems my body doesn't want to win. Oh and the prize is that winner gets to be smug.

You are doing so well Clash. Seems strange to see Santa's at this time of year though!

Tracking everything I eat has made the difference for me.

Tracking AND Weighing.

I am still trying to weigh everything that I eat. It felt like a real pain when I started WW, but it doesn't really take any time to weigh portion sizes when I'm dishing up.

I use a cheapo pair of Lidl scales, put my plate/dish on, set to zero and then shovel each item onto the plate using WW portion guide.

Portion size (and leftovers) was my one of my biggest problem prior to WW.

When I first weighed my daily bowl of breakfast cereals it hit the scales at 120gr, the recommended portion size 30gr. I now save a small fortune by not buying breakfast cereals every week.

You're so right! I do the same as you, weigh my empty plate to zero the scales then add food and zero in between. I was aghast at what I thought was a bowl of cereal - I've bought new, smaller bowls so they still look full.

At the moment I'm really enjoying the easy oats porridge for breakfast. I know making your own is easy but when I'm in a rush it's so quick to bung the oats in a bowl, add the measured amount of milk and let the microwave do its job.

It also helps that OH has really noticed a difference, he's been away for 2-3 weeks at a time and keeps commenting that he can see where I've lost bits. Colleagues have also been kind to say that they can see a difference.

I'm almost on the point of booking a holiday back to the UK in the summer to see relatives who I usually dread seeing as they make comments about my size.

I try and have porridge 3-4 times per week, I've been making batches of stewed fruit to add to it, which seems to keep me fuller for longer in the mornings.

Whatever fruit is on offer in the supermarket, blueberries, blackberies, strawberries I add to apples and orange juice. make loads, then divide it into 7-8 takeaway food containers and freeze it.

A container full lasts me about one week (100gr per day), zero propoints, part of my 5-a-day.
