Why do people say .........

Recommended Posts

I have heard of a different origin for pulling your leg. The explanation I heard goes back to the times of public hangings when the victim didn't die immediately (they were just hung then, not dropped through traps to break the neck) It was considered a kindness to "pull the legs" of the victim as this then broke their neck and they died an immediate rather than a long and painful death.

How this then became a saying for teasing someone I dont know

Why do people say 'How are you?', when they really don't care how you are.

I am often tempted to reply to my Waitrose customers that my back is sore,my knickers are riding up & I think I may regret my latest hair dye job :?

oh, crikey! I'm likely to ask how you are and then listen to your answers... one long queue later we'd still be nattering...

why do people say... 'Cheer up!' when I was feeling fine until they said that?
