Why do people say .........

Recommended Posts

.. life begins at 40  . Does this mean I have to start living now, or do things start to automatically get interesting and better

There are loads of sayings - so please add your own queries to this thread, I am sure the Major has some answers along with many other clever Omleteers :D

I'm with you on that one Cinnamon.

I think it's hilarious when you're sitting in a Dr's waiting room and someone who knows you comes in and says hello immediately followed by 'how are you?'

Er hello - I'm at the doctor's :wall:

Or perhaps answer saying something VERY descriptive about a bad case of Piles or something else equally cringeworthy just out of devilment.

going off track a bit..but does anyone else hear others say...somethinK instead of somethinG

Yes. I'm trying to remember what I heard a girl say the other week........ I'll remember somewhen :oops:

Someone I know says "but what I'm saying is......." before every sentence. Drives me and hubby crackers.

Personally, I think it's just a ruse to maximise one's chances of living to 100.

Methinks I've developed a reputation. Hmmm.....

Why do people say "just give me a second" - how much can you actually do in a second :lol: .

Perhaps you're missing the silent "chance" at the end of the sentence.

"Just give me a second chance"

Why do people say 'How are you?', when they really don't care how you are.

I am often tempted to reply to my Waitrose customers that my back is sore,my knickers are riding up & I think I may regret my latest hair dye job :?

Don't you just hate that? You ask someone "How are you?" and the spiteful whatsit only goes and tells you....

We have a girl at work who ends every sentence with "You know what I mean"!!!! NO I dont know what you mean

Except they don't say "...know what I mean?" do they? What they actually say is "...nahrt ahmein?" and you're supposed to translate the sloppy language as well as interpret the point they're trying to make.

Now, for my own post, I'd like to introduce the phrase "There's no truth in the rumour that....". I find there's no better way of getting a rumour started than a flat denial. Strange that.
