I finally have some chickens!!! Now with pics! :-)

Recommended Posts

Well after years of nagging and moaning my wish finally came true and today I am the proud mummy to 3 bantam orpington chickens! :dance::dance::dance::dance:

One is 6 months old and the other two are mere babies at 10 weeks old - bless!

Am slightly concerned as obviously the 6 month old is sooo much bigger than the other two but I have put them to bed (got home when it was dark) so am hoping they will be ok and will just sleep tonight (they will be ok won't they)??? and will be up at silly o clock to check they are all ok in the morning.

very happy indeeeed :dance::dance::dance::dance:

Congratulations!!! I bought 2 new hens yesterday (12 weeks old) to go with my 18 week old (who tower over them). Due to it getting dark i put them straight into the nest area, where the other two were and they were fine over night (althought i kept checking). The young ones did get a little hen pecked today, but i let them free range all day to give them some space and they were grouping together by the end of the day and seem to be getting along fine.

Congratulations. I have a buff orp bantam who has just started laying, she is really cute.

I don't think the age will be an issue because she's still not mature, you'll just get the usual bit of argy bargy because they are unfamiliar. Just keep an eye out and post some pictures! :lol:

Got up this morning and let them out and they are fine together, no pecking or grumbling at all :clap:

All feeding happily from the grub too, clever girls. The eldest, who my son has named 'Zelda' (don't ask) :roll: had a bit of a grumble at me but she's hadnt really been picked up before yesterday so not used to us yet. The two babies are as quite as church mice :angel: happily pecking about.

Could someone tell me how to post photos please? it's probably really simple but I cant work it out :oops:

Hiya,

The 6 month old 'Zelda' is chocolate. My daughters is black with rather unusual markings, Keith (from Keiths orps) actually said that he has never seen markings like it - very pretty. We also have a little white one with mottled grey markings , not sure what colour you would call her, he did say but I've forgotten :roll: - looks a bit like splash.
