HarrisonFamily
Well I have just ordered the eglu and chickens and in deciding the safest place for the chickens - I noticed the reasonable size aviary that has 5 budgies, would it be OK for the chickens to go in there at times....it would give them a safer larger place than the run safe from the dog.....There would be alot of discarded budgie food on the floor. .... Any thoughts would be appreciated as I have zero chicken experience so far apart from reading on here.....
Egluntyne
How robust is it and what are the dimensions?
Patricia W
Would the budgies still be in there? If so, I would be worried about their safety. I think the chickens would attack and eat them.
TheFeatheredFiend
Also, your hens would get covered in budgie poop. Budgies are frequent poopers.
percy049
My budgie gets really excited when she sees our chickens... the chickens stare in a trance back tho
Lavenders_Blue
Also, your hens would get covered in budgie poop. Budgies are frequent poopers. And chickens aren't??? (Although I guess they can't launch an ariel attack like a budgie can)

HarrisonFamily
There are only 5 budgies in a approx 4m x 3m aviary, I have never seen one on the floor, Do you think the chickens would try and catch the budgies ??? I would love them to free range but my dog catches an assortmant of animals up the woods and I am pretty sure if he got a chance he would have a chicken dinner. I just thought the aviary might provide a bigger area to play in...
Clur
I'd be worried about the budgies safety too. My girls are very territorial and frequently chase other birds out of our garden. Often we'll see them dash across the garden and come sauntering back with a beak full of feathers.
HarrisonFamily
Thank you for the advice, I will come up with another plan.........
Chortle Chook
What breed is your dog? Can he be trained to accept them. My JR and my Saluki are quite happy with my chickens and they with them. My greyhounds are not 100% trustworthy so I have put up a little picket fence across my patio. This is something I saw done in someone else's house when I went to collect some chooks from them. The chooks have the garden and the dogs can be with us on the patio and get their main walk and then three mini outings a day.
