Henergy
I've read that each chicken should eat about 4oz of pellets - is that about a handful ? Also my (first day at home) chickens didn't eat hardly any pellets today, but were happy to have some corn & raisins later. Will they get used to the pellets ? Should I mix something in with the pellets ?
jimnpaula
I just leave out full feeders and they will eat what they want. They're probably still a bit rattled from the move to a new house and will settle down soon. Also, if they are not in lay they won't eat as much as a laying hen. (Edit: just found out that yours are so this doesn't apply.) Try not to feed too much corn, it's a treat and not particularly nutritious and will make them fat. Don't worry, they will work out what the pellets are for. P Edited March 6, 2011 by Guest
beach chick
just keep giving them the pellets - when they are hungry enough, they'll eat them! too much corn, or treats, will make them more picky, not give them enough nutrients and make them fat - and then they wont lay. WitchHazel
If your Girls are still pullets (they haven't started to lay yet) then they won't eat that much. Once they come into lay, their appetite increases, and you will find they eat noticeably more food.
