Skip Hire...Chicken Run Waste

Recommended Posts

Can't you give it away ? Freegle or put a notice up at your local allotments, note into your local garden club etc. With people just getting back into gardening it should go easily. I know Cinnamon regularly gives away surplus on our local freegle group. Mine all goes into one of the 5 compost heaps and turns the kitchen and garden waste to 'Geoff Hamilton' level compost

Skips are so expensive and such a waste to dump such great compost accelerator

Thank you :D

I don't have any friends with allotments as far as I know

I guess rubble sacks are pretty strong...so will get a supply of those :D

Will start digging asap and put my ad on Freecycle

Thank you everyone for your suggestions :D

I think it depends where you are. I can't give it away because it's very rural here and anyone who wants manure really is spoiled for choice. Fortunately I can use most of mine on the garden and when I've got too much (usually late summer-early winter when I'm using my aviary for chicks and growers) I hide it in the brown bin between the layers of green waste that I don't have room to compost because I'm too busy composting chicken run waste.

We compost ours, and bag any surplus up to take to mum in law's. She grows loads of tomatoes in the summer and sells them at her gate for charity - apparently the tomatoes have been incredible since using our girl's gifts. Chicken poo is marvellous stuff - MIL calls it 'hen gold'.

Had 2 collectors so far...the driveway was half full  with blue rubble sacks yesterday morning (70 in total) and now I have just 22 left...and 3 more takers :D

So glad I posted here...I have saved a small fortune :)

THANK YOU EVERYONE WHO SUGGESTED GUM TREE AND FREECYCLE

I hope people realise there is straw and shavings in it as well

I thought that! Wouldn't want people to be disappointed because my sacks of "chicken poo" is actually mainly wood shavings. I'm sure its still a good fertilizer though :)
