really getting into this crochet lark and just finished a matching poncho and hat. I'm 6 foot 1" so made the poncho longer than the pattern said and I'm really pleased with it as I have something that actually fits properly for a change! :D

cheers Plum :D

this was the pattern. It said to use sirdar spree chunky wool but i couldn't find that so i used sirdar click chunky.

I was very unsure about my competence with this project, only being a beginner, and i did have to unravel a few times and start again but i got the hang of it eventually.

To anyone just starting crochet then jump in and try something a little out of your comfort zone because you'll probably find you'll ace it, if not first time, then after a few tries! ;)

Thank you Emma :D Not sure yet, probably something lightweight for the Spring/Summer, maybe a jumper of some sort?

What are you making at the moment? Are you still doing the bunting?

Hi Poet,

I went Black sheep wools last year when they had a sale on...it was fab - although I bought a lot of yarn that I haven't used yet. We had a steak canadian barm at the fishery next door & sat infront of the log burner in the log cabin. 8)

I must be due another trip there soon.

Yes I'm still doing bunting. I did get side tracked today though. I've been making Attic 24 Summer garden squares - as I bought more of the bright Stylecraft Special yarn in bright colours. Not sure what I'll turn the squares into yet - maybe a cushion or a smallish blanket for a chair. Crochet is so addictive though.

Have you seen Attic24's Japanese flower scarf. I can imagine you in that. It's lovely.

I'm very mesmerised by your hat & poncho - it's really nice. :D

That is lovely - I have some of that wool - umm may be ....

I too am into crochet at the moment inspired by others on here who posted about Attic24 and Crochet with Raymond both very insparational and such brilliant ideas

I have made bunting (yet to blockit - time just runs and runs) and at the moment am crocheting African Flowers into a cushion cover http://www.flickr.com/groups/africanflowers/

Addictive - indeed I did a heap of flowers today whilst I had a pedicure

thank you very much! :D Why don't you make one for yourself? If you want the pattern for the poncho then PM me your email address. This is the pattern for the hat

If you use thinner wool you can easily tinker with the pattern by adding extra increasing rows until your circle measures about 16cm across (my head measures 52cm so divide that by PI i.e. 3.142 = 16.5 so you can work out the size of your hat that way. Basically, you want the diameter of the circle to be about a third of the circumfrence of your head. You don't have to be spot on because the hat will stretch a bit obviously, better too be slightly smaller than going over. I knew school maths would come in handy one day!) then stop adding stitches. I also didn't bother with rows 11-14 and just carried on doing the instructions for rows 5-10 until it was long enough then i finished it with one row as per rows 11-14 (hope that makes sense).

Then I just made a flower to my own design.

Because it's a mesh design, if you make it in light yarn then it'll be perfect for the Spring!

apparently these are quite the thing at the moment.

I just did 17 chains and then dble crocheted until i had the right length (keep trying it for size on your head) then joined the 2 ends with slip stitches and added a flower over the seam.

I have decided NOT to start anything new until I have finished the various WIPs I have on the go. But I did buy 34 balls of yarn for my next project - really hard to resist getting on with the new project :(

So this weekend I have finished - the green bunting, the red white & blue bunting, the purple/grey bunting and the yellow cream and green granny square cushion cover has been crocheted together and is now being blocked. A picture of the yellow cover being blocked

The Pink African flower cushion cover is in the process of being crocheted together. Some of the hexagons before being crocheted together

Oh my  how long have I been chrocheting? - umm since I was about 10ish so 30+ years.

The pattern and tutorial for the African flower is here

http://heidibearscreative.blogspot.com/2010/05/african-flower-hexagon-crochet-tutorial.html

and there's a flickr groupd dedicated to the African Flower - with some really great ideas including various shapes of bags. The inspiration for the colours come from the flickr group - I'm not very good a seeing colour combinations

Once you've done one - my first one took me a while - the others are really quick.

I do all the centres first, then the next colour and finally the edging colour. The halves and quarters were a bit fiddly. I left them until the end, by which time I was confident with the pattern and could adapt it for the missing halves. I did find a couple of patterns which were a help

I'm making a headband at the moment. I'm on the third attempt as the edges were wonky, and realised I used the wrong size crochet hook.

I've also made some amigarami toys and have a bunny and easter chicks almost finished. The patterns are from a book. This is on my list to make:

I've made a phone sock/pouch, but made it up myself using double crochet and flowers. I'm still learning!
