Old Speckled Hen
I marked a queen yesterday. Had to do my inspection on my own as hubby was out on a Mountain Rescue exercise and boy, was I shaking. She went back in OK and I spotted her walking about on another frame as I worked through the box. Fingers crossed she is OK. One more to find...eeek!!! Kermit
Nerve wracking time - did it last year and was overjoyed I got away with it. However, after doing our first inspection last week we found HM in one colony has rubbed off most of the paint during the winter, so we have the joys again this year. Chicken Licken
Our bees have been in the hive since last July and we have never seen the queen. She is (was) marked. There is definitely a queen in residence as there were plenty of eggs and pupae in the brood box when we inspected yesterday. I would love to see the queen!! MedusA
Well done!It is a bit of an art. We had to mark 4 queens last year. My friend did 3 and there was queen-marking paint everywhere. My only attempt went like clockwork and she was beautifully marked. I don't think my friend has forgiven me yet! I would like to add that my success was a complete fluke. I doubt I could ever reproduce it!
