katieD
Hi all I picked up 3 creasted legbar chicks on Tuesday, they had hatched the day before. There was 4 of them supposively 3 girls and a boy, she was keeping the boy with her other hatchlings and I had the 3 girls. When they were all together the 3 girls all looked very obviously different to the 1 boy. The thing is now I have them home one of them looks different They all have a stripe, but one of them is slightly lighter and has a yellow spot on it's head. She hatched them all out of different batches of eggs so could it just be that that's making them look a bit different? I think it could be a boy but the boy chick from the group had no stripe? I've got a photo on my phone but have no idea how to get it to upload as only have my iPad? Any ideas on whether the spot means definate boy greatly appreciated

katieD
Think he's is a boy The one chick that the lady thought was a boy looked like the boy in the first link but the one I've got looks like the one in the second Now going to have to rehome him when he's bigger
chuckmum6
Can't you take him back, if you are sure he is a he?
Redwing
Not all Cream Legbars are easy to sex although they should be, some are really borderline even from the best flocks which begs the question if they are a pure as they are supposed to be! I suppose yours could be a female but the dot on the head is pretty conclusive, no genuine breeder would knowingly pass on a male, it could have been an error or it could be that they are confident of their breeding line to be able to sex the poorly marked chicks I'd ask the breeder to take a look at it and to reassure you or take it back If you bought it as guaranteed sexed then the problem sits with the breeder and not you Its really hard to rehome cockerels
katieD
Hi Thanks for ur help. Spoke to the breeder last week and she says she was confident it was a girl but is happy for me to return if not. We've been away for a week and on my return they have doubled in size and got loads of feathers The suspected boy looks like has a grey and white barring, the other 2 are more of a partridge colour- Am I right in assuming that he is a boy then? Griffin
Yes definitely sounds like a boy. They grow up much lighter.
