Dogs and chicken poo

Recommended Posts

Hi folks, hope all is well. Had our girls two weeks now and they are settling in really well. They love being left to roam our garden (when we are there, of course) and follow us about all the time!

My query is this, our miniatutre Schnauzer, Alfie, gets on really well with the hens and follows them everywhere. The problem is, he hoovers up all their poo. He doesnt seem to be affected at all apart from his own poo turning darker.

Has any one had any issues with this? I don't want to keep either shut in when the other is out as they get on so well.

Anyone got any thoughts?

Many thanks, Kev

Clare, I'm sitting in the garden enjoying he sun with the girls and dog around me, I laughed so loud at the thought of frozen poo-pops I scared them all and the missus rushed wondering what all the fuss was :D

There could be a Market opportunity there.......

My dog drinks out of the chicken drinker, eats as many pellets as she can manage and tops it of with as many stick to the roof of your mouth poos as she can find :vom: She has a lovely glossy coat and a wet nose so I don't worry. I do avoid any doggie kisses from her though

My JR x Spaniel just loves chicken poops. After we failed totally to cure him of this habit by sprinkly chilli powder on them, we decided that we might as well be pragmatic and 'Ey well, it keeps the path clean' He seems a very healthy little chap and the only adverse effects I can think of are:

a) I'm not too keen on his kisses :vom:

b) he does terrible smells when we are all watching TV. :talk2hand:

My bull terrier loves chicken poo. Since the girls get to free range mornings and the dogs have the run of the garden in the afternoon, it motivates me to do a thorough poo patrol before letting the dogs out. My bullie is eleven so her immune system might not be up to the challenge. I am a nurse so concerned about cocci in the poo. Both dogs benefit from the eggs though. With nine young prolific hens there are plenty of eggs for the dogs, me, my daughter and her family, and my best friend and her extended family, and occasionally a few to the neighbors. Plus even as seldom as she finds a poo cookie I have missed (she looks carefully for these), I do not love her kisses any more!

Even though I do an absolute thorough search of the garden after the girls have free ranged, our Heinz 57 Pedra, always manages to find a poo to munch on. :vom: I have threatened to give her a bowl of chicken poo and grass for her dinner, but she would proberbly love it
