majorbloodnock
To be honest, the fact you don't have an ice cream maker is irrelevant. It takes the chore out of remembering to take the mixture out of the freezer when slushy and give it a good whisk to break up the ice crystals, but it doesn't actually do anything you can't do yourself by hand. For that reason, don't limit yourself. Forget all mention of ice cream makers and do any recipe you can find. Personally, I think the velvety smoothness of blackcurrant ice cream takes a lot of beating (pun not intended).
Lesley
I agree - just use whatever recipe takes your fancy and then just make sure you have time to keep removing the container and beating well so that the ice crystals break up.....use a timer to help, I always forget otherwise. Charlottechicken
I just bought a book from a charity sale at work, which is full of old Victorian iced dessert recipes, it's very interesting.

..lay a little egg for me
Any chance of posting the easy-peasy recipe - I would love to have a go at ice cream I have two easy peasy recipes. One with eggs and one without. I'm guessing you need the one with eggs!! I got it from the book "Hens in the garden, eggs in the kitchen" which has lots of great recipes for using up an egg glut! 4 eggs, separated 150g icing sugar 300 ml double cream 1 tbsp vanilla extract or the seeds from 1 vanilla pod Whisk the egg whites with half the sugar in one bowl until they form stiff peaks. Whisk the the egg yolks with the other half of the sugar in another bowl until pale and thick, add the vanilla. Whisk the cream, not too stiff. Fold the yolks then cream into the whites, put in a 2 litre tub, freeze. That's it, no need to take it out and break up the ice crystals or do anything else except wait around 8 hours for it to freeze. I find it is relatively soft scoop compared with Green and Blacks for example but harder than Walls. Visiting children claim it is the best ice cream ever !
