Christian
They have "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" (recommended on the Book Recommendations thread!) so I think I'll start with that one. I really liked that book!
Bramble
Hello! Well, I've just ordered a Kindle for my Mum (haven't taken the plunge for myself yet!!!!!) - ordered it from Tesco Direct as they have a £10 off promotion at the moment (only on Tesco Direct, not in store, but you can collect from store, but it's on EVERYTHING when you spend over £75, not just Kindles). If anyone needs it, the code is TDX-7PKF
Cinnamon
I have just found a tiny hairline crack in the casing of my Kindle, coming out diagonally from the bottom right corner of the screen Phoned Amazon & even though it is a month out of warranty, they are sending a replacement right away - brilliant customer service! The crack is very, very faint....it might be worth everyone giving their Kindles a really good looking over regularly just to check...it is caused by stress from page turning, the chap said. bluekarin
That is good to know. I shall keep an eye out - just hope it doesn't happen to mine.
Cinnamon
Taking a closer look,I think it may have been caused by the leather Amazon case. The bottom hooky bit (if you have one you will know what I mean) isn't straight, but tilted back.....I assume they are both supposed to be totally straight? Anyhow, whenever I page turn, the Kindle wobbles in the case & it is never really solidly in it,so that may have cause stress,as its cracked just by the button that I use the most for turning pages. When my Kindle is in the case, there is a lot of play on the hooks - the bottom one almost, but not quite, releases the Kindle without me having to pull the top sliding hook down Doesn't look or feel right to me. I will give them another ring I think.
Seagazer
I will keep an eye on ours.
snowberry
I still use the sweet little bookmark that Plum sent me for Christmas. My kitten likes to bat the beads on it backwards and forwards as I'm reading my book. Last night I had the Kindle out & was reading on it. There were no beads for kitty to swipe so he tried to chew the corner of the Kindle instead
Cinnamon
I HATE it in the Kindle advert where the dog licks it - it makes me really angry
chickric
New Kindle out, touchscreen version out now. http://www.amazon.co.uk/ref=gno_logo If only I could justify it, maybe Chickvic needs her own and I can have a new one! or should I hold fire for the Fire? Bramble
Oooh yes, that looks exciting! I'm determined to hold on for the Fire, but absolutely no idea when they are likely to be available - any updates anyone!?
Cinnamon
I have a few reservations about the Kindle touch. Firstly, there is no 3G & internet here is patchy,so that is a must for me. But my biggest worry in the finger prints that will mark the screen,if it is the same matte finish screen as the current Kindle. I too like the sound of the Kindle fire, but it doesn't have the matte screen,so may suffer from sunlight glare I think I will be sticking to my current Kindle until there is an e-ink colour version of it,with 3G
chickric
3G version , and just been messing with my Kindle to see about finger prints and I have to say I found them less noticeable than on reflective screen. I keep going to use mine as a touch screen anyway for the first few minuets after using my phone and wondering why it won't turn the page
Cinnamon
Now look what you have done - you might have cost me £170 I think I will look into it in a couple of months when the reviews are in & when there are display models to try out in JL,which have been touched lots of times
Cinnamon
Saved myself the money again.....touchscreen don't work if its in a waterproof case,so bathtime reading would be out. PLEASE don't tell me that they have a special new cover to eliminate this!
chickric
Sorry Although it doesn't get very good reviews and is off the American site.
Mercedes55
3G version , and just been messing with my Kindle to see about finger prints and I have to say I found them less noticeable than on reflective screen. I keep going to use mine as a touch screen anyway for the first few minuets after using my phone and wondering why it won't turn the page Oh I just got an email from Amazon about that I got my Kindle at the end of February for my Birthday and chose the keyboard one as I liked the idea of having the 3G, but I think I would have got this new touch one if it had been out then. Cinnamon
Sorry Although it doesn't get very good reviews and is off the American site. Hmmm, not convinced that touch will work through that cover, & as most of my reading is done in the bath I am sticking with my current Kindle for the moment. Plum
I wouldn't dare take one in the bath even with a cover, I fall asleep too often! Kindle book sale on. I bought 'Tiny sunbirds far away', 'The Weight of Water' and 'Two Cows and a vanful of Smoke' for less than a fiver. Is the silicone cover worth getting, although it does look pretty? I've made a patchwork quilted case to keep mine in after reading from you that some cases can be the cause of the cracks.
