We've been busy... making a new playground!

Recommended Posts

Oooh we've made the girls a playground! When we first moved in, there was nothing in the garden so the girls had the run of it but, now we've put in the lawn, veggies and SHRUBS (!!!), we want to stop them eating it  so here's their playground, connected to the WIR (on the left) by a hatch and tunnel and fenced off with home-made balustrade :D They're only allowed in there when we're in the garden so we keep them in with netting - not strong enough to keep foxes out

Cost about £40 - we used B&Q's 98p spindles. The short panel is on latches so we can unhook it to weed/depoo :D It's working so well that we're going to make it permanent and fox-proof it with weldmesh (pegged down and under slabs), a weldmesh roof and a £3 Eglu Shade for shelter

The chicks are in the Eglu on the right so, once they join the big girls, the Eglu will go and we'll extend the playground down the right to double its size. Then, if we introduce more girls (ahem), we can divide the playground in two and put the Eglu in the right hand half :)

Happy girlies!

Thank you :D

Reckon they are plotting how to get to that lovely grass

Noooo they'd better not be! Took us months to get from this (newbuild)

Gabrielle (columbine - nimble and flighty :wall: ) has already figured out that the grass really is greener on the other side so we're constantly putting her back - to the point whereI can hear her tutting as I walk up to her

Sophia (Light Sussex hybrid - "big boned" hehe) has figured out that if she leans against the netting protecting my new shrubs, it collapses under her and then she can have a sit down meal and scoff it! Aaagh chooks! How very naughty
