The Pearsons
My two ladies do not like to be woken up. Toast isn't too bad in the morning and usually will come out of the cube at around 7.30. Chips is quite diffferent - I never see her in the morning. They also go to bed at around 5pm....... BUT I did have two beautiful eggs yesterday (31st May) and I only got the hens on the 30th! I didn't expect eggs for a day or two as I thought the ladies would be upset after their move but they both seem to be pretty bombproof. kannie
Maybe the lie-in is because they're laying, Helen? That is very early to bed! Ours are going in at about 8.45 at the moment - mind you we are down south! Do you have them in a dark corner?
Guest
Helen, it must be something to do with the fresh Borders air, because my pair aren't interested in getting up before 7:30ish, and both tuck themsleves up in the eglu long before dusk. Our last chickens, when we lived close to Edinburgh would be screeching to get out at sun-up, and would still bescratching in the run well past dusk. chocchick
We added Abbie and she lounges around, and now the other chickens copy. They never sat down before that Mine don't go to bed until about 9.30pm at the moment

Lay in the morning You must be joking - far too early They lay between two and three in the afternoon. I've come to the conclusion that they are just lazy hussies but I can live with that as long as they keep laying. Helen in Hume

Toast isn't too bad but Chips really likes her bed. Helen in Hume
Jill
Mine have no particular time to lay but they get up at dawn and don't go to bed until well after 9pm. I think they will start to get bags under their eyes soon
ali-s
5pm to bed is very early and I wish mine would stay in bed until 7.30am My little darlings are up and about at 4.30am and last night didn't retire until 10pm. It is still light here until about 10.20pm and a few more weeks where it will get lighter earlier and not get dark until about 11pmish. I love the summers up here
Tippy
No idea! I gave up putting my alarm on for 5.30am to open their door when it got a little warmer and they grew a few feathers. I now leave it open overnight. One night ,about midnight, I decided to fill up their bowls whilst they were asleep. All 3 charged out of the 'bedroom' to see what I was doing. So much for for being sleepy!.
