Ygerna
I hope I've done the right thing I've popped the little chick back into the nest, under the broody. I really hope that was the right thing to do. If I'd left it earlier it would be dead by now. As it is, the limp, lifeless little thing that was removed from the nest is now a fluffier, chirpier (literally) little thing.
surfer_chicken
Mum should make sure it's ok now. Is it her first time? I'm glad it's looking better xx
Ygerna
Mum should make sure it's ok now. Is it her first time? I'm glad it's looking better xx Yes it is her first hatch. I guess all I can do now is wait. Not easy
Redwing
I'd have tucked it back under the broody too Maybe consider rigging up a cardboard coral for a few days to prevent chicks moving too far from her, she may not be very attentive if she is waiting for the other chicks to hatch
Griffin
I had a similar thing happen last year with an Orp chick. I put him under a heat lamp to warm him up. He quickly came around and I popped him back under Mum. It happened late at night and I just don't think she noticed him in the dark
Ygerna
The little chick is still with us this morning We still only have the two that hatched though, and today is day 23.

craftyhunnypie
Well done, I would have done the same. I hope it continues to thrive & once it starts eating its crumbs, it will soon gain strength ( & weight). Emma.x
atsw
We still only have the two that hatched though, and today is day 23. I'd hang on in there at least another 24-48hrs. Given the first two didn't pop out till day 22 hatching was a bit delayed anyway, so give the other eggs at least 2 more days. Ygerna
Well, the little fighter is still with us I just hope that after all this she is a she, and not a he There are three eggs still in there. The other egg had been pecked open, I think by the broody. I've no idea why. Sadly there was a lovely, perfectly formed chick inside but, nature is cruel sometimes If there is no pipping tomorrow from the rest I'm going to take them out. Although, I may investigate getting a couple of day olds to pop in there... hmmm
gongladosh
how did it go with the eggs?
Ygerna
nothing from the other eggs. More sadly, the little chick that was barely alive didn't make it either. It couldn't walk properly which meant mum kept treading on it and it couldn't get to the food and water. So, now I just have the one bantam. I can't just have one so, Ive bought an incubator Haven't told hubby yet though
