First Free Range Day today

Recommended Posts

I finally got everything delivered that I needed to set up a chicken friendly area in my garden today - netting from Knowle nets (a miracle it got here, I told them to send to house no. 140, and some genius sent it to 13? My postman was VERY grumpy that day!) and some plastic poly posts from ebay (£11 for 10!) set it all up on Thursday evening, and today will be the first day the girls get to spend some time in it. Already let them have a bit of a mooch around in it, but then wondered where Babs would go when she needed to lay (it's not anywhere near the eglu as it's on the grass) so plonked them back in their run for a bit until she's laid and then they can have the rest of the day in their pen!

The pen is approx. 7.2m x 3.6m, with a metre section for a gate on one side so we can easily go in and out.

I've forgotten though, how much area is the minimum they need to have available to them in order to be considered 'free range'? I know my garden probably isn't anywhere near, but it's nice to know that maybe they're a bit more towards it.

Congratulations on beating the cigs by the way! :) How did you manage it???

I used 'stage 2' patches (Nicotinell) for the first 2 weeks - and pure willpower since - and the feeling that knowing my willpower is that strong has really given me a boost, but most of all I think taking advantage of every bit of support available to me (online, at my pharmacy, through the NHS etc) has helped me a lot - I mark off every day on my NHS smokefree quit kit

EDIT: I've not used a single bit of nicotine replacement therapy for about a week and a half - I've got nearly a whole box of inhalator cartridges and half a box of 2mg nicotine gum (with whitening!) left - and I don't feel the temptation at all to dip into it - I'm more worried that when I go to the nurse my carbon monoxide reading will be bad from passive smoking! :shameonu::pray:

hiya!

yes I got the knowle nets for 'peacocks and geese' as it was slightly cheaper, think 30 metres cost me around £21 including postage :)

and this is the company on ebay I got the posts from: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Farmcare-UK/_i.html?_fsub=6

I hope this helps!
