Which position works best for you...?

Recommended Posts

 Hi there, am in the final stages of getting ready for my cube and chickens, no sorry, OH's Fathers Day cube and chickens, (they're not mine, they're not mine, they're not mine, repeat after me.....! )

Anyway, have been avidly watching the garden (STILL no grass!) to see where the sun goes when, is it better for the chooks to get the early morning sun then possibly be in the shade later or should they be in dappled light most of the day then sun in the evening, cos that's the two positions I've got available for said cube. I didn't want the cube to be in direct sun in case they ended up cooked in their own house!! And I was going to put the cube on a base of bark chippings with that aubiose stuff inside the actual house, is that what you do? Sorry to sound so thick, I've read umpteen posts and wrote it all down once but can't find the paper!!

 That excitement is great isn't it?

Originally I had mine in the sunniest part of the garden, but when it got very hot, it didn't seem to be 'good' for them. No natural shade and of course cooking poo! I've since moved it to an area of dappled shade with bits of sunshine. They do seem to prefer it (and it gets less smelly!). The bark chips and aubiose sounds like a good idea. 8)

Definitely give them some shade

Our big girls spent a lot of the weekend under the cube and the new ones, were at one point, all crowded into a corner, until the sun moved round

Fab, thanks everyone, as I typed it I thought it might be the better option, but as I said, I'm getting to the rushing around, all excited, not getting much done stage! (Pre "Omlet" I'd have said I was like a headless chicken, but doesn't seem quite the thing to say now!! )
