Mercedes55
Well OH went and picked up our Silver Laced Wyandotte and was supposed to get a Bluebelle too, however they didn't have any Bluebell's left and he brought home one that the young boy there didn't know what breed it is. Now to my novice eye it looks like a Gold Laced Wyandotte, but would appreciate anyone correcting me on that as I am clueless. Have no idea how old they are either. For now we have just put some food and water down in the dog's bowls till we can get out and pick up some feeders. Here are a couple of pictures Edited July 23, 2011 by Guest
Ain't Nobody Here
No idea, but they're both stunning .
Mercedes55
I meant to add that the gold girl has grey legs, but I have read that Wyandottes have yellow legs. Really confused
fluffy chick
Maybe a wyandotte with something else? No idea but they are pretty
Mercedes55
Maybe a wyandotte with something else? No idea but they are pretty Well they charged the same price for both, so if one is crossed with another breed then I would have expected the Gold one to cost less. I've noticed having had a longer look at them that the Silver Laced girl seems a fair bit younger as she has no comb, yet the Gold girl has a bit of a comb and you can tell all her feathers are a lot longer and she is generally larger. I really didn't want 2 pure breeds to be honest, bit miffed that we were misled about the Bluebelle
fluffy chick
Hmm maybe not. Some hybrids are expensive from some breeders, plus as they wasn't sure what they were they may have assumed it was something fancy! If it makes you feel better I had a pair of blue belles and found my pure breeds friendlier
Redwing
Do you have any more pics of it? the face would give more clues It doent look like a Wyandotte, it has too much tail and white earlobes On the basis of that pic it could be a Hamburgh

Redwing
It does look like a gold spangled Hamburgh If it is then it should lay you plenty of nice white eggs It does look older than the Wyandotte but Hamburghs tend to have more of a showy comb than Wyandottes so dont worry too much

The write up on this forum is that they are very flighty birds who need lots of space and lots of FR time. We have a WIR and most of the time they are kept in there. We let the ex batts out as they don't have any bare earth in their part of the run, but the pure breeds we tend to keep in the WIR as they have access to another run at the back of the garden that they can dig around in. However I wouldn't call it a huge amount of space, I think it's about 18ft by 3ft and the main WIR part they now have is 24ft by 7ft, but at the moment it's divided into 3 for the introductions. What I don't want is to have a hen who may get bored and end up picking on my other pure breeds as I've just had to separate the ex batts due to one of them feather plucking my Favorelle and Araucana
Snowy
That is only a general guide, you may find she settles in very well. I used to have a gold campine (similar to the Hamburghs) who was classed as flighty but she was the friendliest girl I've ever had - very cheeky and confident, and yes she could get over to next doors garden if she wanted to! But a lovely hen.
Redwing
Hens get used to their environment very quickly If you do let her free range at any point then clip one wing I've had Hamburghs before with no problems, none of my chooks really get to FR Pure breeds generally dont have the behavioural problems of hybrids, as long as you have enough room for them all you'll be fine
daxigirl
What about Old English Pheasant Fowl? They look like her picture.
Redwing
You could be right there, it could be an OEPF Looking at it closer I am not 100% sure its female, there are distinct sickle type feathers and the fluff at the base of the tail tends to be seen in males however I am not experienced enough with gold Hamburghs or OEPF to be sure Wait to get more opinions before panicking though!
