I don't think I'll ever make a profit... I guess it could be quite easy to do if you built your own coop or got an old one for free with FTGH hens or ex batts.

Me neither. I'd have done better if my neighbour had given up hen keeping and sold me her lovely Forsham Ark before I got my hens, but as it is I now have two coops instead of one, and have spent goodness knows how much on fencing to build a hen pen, an automatic coop opener, fancy ex batt feed (although they just have the bog standard food now), fresh veg from the supermarket and goodness knows what else!

Crikey I'm not even going to work it out! I'm lucky to get an egg a day out of my lot at the min, what with moulting, being broody and waiting a life time for my growers to lay Mine are pets and the (occasional) egg is a bonus.

Seriously though, I must have spent about £600 on chicken keeping (reallllyyy rough estimate). My two hybrid girls have been laying for about a year, so I'd say about 600 eggs between them (just to make the maths easy ) Crikey £1 egg Err... how much are they at the supermarket?

 

Actually, it's quite a bargain considering all the cuddles and love I get in return. ♥ ♥ ♥

We give all our eggs away to the neighbours as we don't eat them. The chooks are pampered pets & I'm trying to get the neighbours to ignore the cock-a-doodle-doing at stupid o'clock:anxious:

weve not had eggs in ages. OH is selling them at work. I have a jar i put all the girls pocket money in (have about £50 so far). I think we have spent about £900 so far this year (since feb this year) i wouldnt mind but the money from the eggs is theirs as well. Bloomin cheeky girls!
