coco
I bought two pekin chicks last Sunday they are about 8/10 weeks old. They are both sitting very quietly one is sleepy the other is fluffed up with her eyes closed. There are no obvious signs apart from they are both gaping, [its like they are yawning]. I bough a third chick from the same place on Thursday and she seems fine. I did notice when I went to get the third chick that one of her adult hens was doing the gaping thing. I'm thnking gapeworm but are they too young to have worms and should I worm them anyway, I have flubenvet for the other hens.

Egluntyne
They aren't too young to have worms. It does sound as if it might be gapeworm, especially if one of the adults has the same symptoms. I would worm them if they ere mine. Don't forget though that strictly speaking, the double dose required to treat gapeworm should only be given on the say so of a vet. coco
Thanks, I think I will worm them especially as the salmon girl has messy knickers, they are eating corn and drinking so I'm hoping they aren't too bad. I'm just glad I didn't put them in with my older chicks, shows the importance of quarantine.
