Mum
My gorgeous araucana chick is not looking at all well; very lethargic since yesterday morning. Tried to get some water into her last night but that was a very difficult process (dip beak into bowl, a sip here, a sip there). Seperated her from the rest of the flock (I know she was being hen pecked when I amalgamated two groups - despite them foraging together for the past 8wks; did it at night, followed all advice, but it was down hill from there). Today, it's more of the same, not eating, not drinking, standing with eyes half closed. It is so sad to watch her, I haven't a clue what could be wrong. She's too young to be egg bound; she's had worming/lice/redmite treatments; cider vinegar in drinking water. It is pitiful Any ideas greatfully received
Egluntyne
I'd take her to a vet. She is very young and will need swift assistance.
Mum
I'd take her to a vet. She is very young and will need swift assistance. I would if I could My own vet is over 25 miles away and I know he doesn't tend chickens from when I took my cats recently. I can't get out to the vet (the one he recommended is 40 miles away) because my dh is stuck in the Met area assisting them in the troubles - no idea when he'll be home - and I can't leave my boys If it were as simple as a vets visit, I would have done that already but I can't; hence my post
Green Tea
First thing I would try is worming her again - perhaps with some xeno if she's not eating, I know you have already but if she did have worms the wormer wouldn't necessarily have killed all the eggs and she may still have them......it can't do any harm

I haven't heard of xeno; as soon as I can, I shall get some. She's still losing feathers, even though I seperated her yesterday from the hen pecking; nothing significant (as in bald patches), but several here and there. coco
I have three 11 week old pekn chicks, two of which have been ill. The vet said they had a virus that my adult hens will have had but the chicks will have to get over themselves, a bit like a baby getting ill. I have been giving them Avipro in their water and anything they wanted to eat. They love scrambled egg made with water.
Tweety
Have you thought of getting advice online from a vet, or phoning an avian vet? It might be worth trying - if you explain your situation, they might be able to give you some advice or recommend some medication.
loumabel
I am so sorry your chook is poorly. She really does sound like she needs a vet, could you not convince a friend or neighbour to take you in their car. I know its a cheeky ask but if you explain the problem I am sure they wouldnt mind, you could offer to pay there petrol. Good luck and fingers crossed she recovers
Mum
Thank you for your advice and kindly taking the time to offer it, I do appreciate it. Unfortunately, she didn't make it through the night.

Mum
Thank you for your kind words. I spoke to Sandra at the farm where we get our chooks (or, in the Araucan's case, the eggs to put under our broody from which she hatched). Told her what happened and she thinks it is likely that she simply found being mixed (and at the bottom of the pecking order) too, too, stressful and "gave up". Apparently some animals do that?
