Chickendoodle
I don't think I will be going. I absolutely loved the book and I have a gut feeling that the film will not be very good. Anne Hathaway seems a strange choice for the lead and I have already read a few adverse comments about her Yorkshire accent. It also seems a bit soon for a film adaptation to be made of what has been an extremely popular recent book. There is a shall we say, quite unexpected bit in the book which would spoil the film if you know it in advance. My feeling is that it would be OK to see if you have not read the book as it is a really good story but not if you have read it. Would be interested in hearing any reviews from fellow omleteers
bluekarin
I am in two minds about seeing it. I'd like to, just to see how they managed to film it as a coherent film, but I loved the book so much, I'd end up being like the kids and Harry Potter films v the books and saying they didn't do this bit right or missed such and such bit out. Its the same with Bridget Jones. Loved those books and the films are just about bearable. Might wait till its out on dvd.
Janepie33
Read the book and absolutely loved it. I quite agree with the odd casting of Ann Hathaway and the unexpected bit in the book but I plan to see the film within the next few days. (I only bought the book because I heard it was being made into a film! ) Will let you know if I think the film is or or
patsylabrador
Embarrassingly I haven't read the book or known about the film. I am however, very excited about Cowboys & Aliens which will be released soon. That probably tells you everything you need to know about me. sadietoo
I enjoyed the book, but I don't think I'll bother with the film.....we watched Starter for Ten a couple of nights ago, and it was light entertainment but i wouldn't have wanted to spend £16 or more for the two of us to go and see it... I'm not sure I understand all the hype about the book (a bit controversial I know- but it's not the best thing I've ever read).... entertaining but not life changing...then add in an american spin on it all ... think I've just talked myself out of the film actually.....I'll wait for it to come on the telly! Cinnamon
I can't wait to see it. Loved and adored the book and although I do agree that the casting is odd I am happy to give them the benefit of the doubt for now. Will maybe see it on Saturday night, while waiting for the daughters to come out of the Festival in Reading. I am also excited about ' Cowboys & Aliens',but then it has got Daniel Craig in it
Griffin
I went to see it last night with my Mum. I too has serious reservations over Anne Hathaway. She was ok, her accent kept changing, and I am sure they could've found a northern British actress to play Emma instead. Jim Sturgess makes for an excellent Dexter though, he was superb and it was his performance that had me in tears. I didn't cry when I thought I would, it was Dexter that did it for me! I actually found it quite amusing to hear almost everyone in the audience gasp and jump in their seats My mum hadn't read the book, knew nothing about the film and she said she found that bit upsetting. The film felt quite rushed at times, there were great big chunks missing, such as the affair with the headmaster. I kind of didn't really get the love they had for each other because there were no letters, although it was suggested they were sent we never heard the contents, and very few phonecalls. I enjoyed it but the book is far superior. Mum loved the film. I'd definitely recommend it though.
